WOW! How did that happen?
Everything I've ever read an NFA tax stamp is a months long process.
Was this your first time, or do you already have other NFA items?
I've never heard of anyone getting one through that fast.

The problem is there are still many folks that have been waiting for months that have not been approved, yet some are now getting approvals in record time.

Are resources being diverted from the older applications? Are the rapid approvals getting the same scrutiny as paper applications?

Note that I think the entire NFA is unconstitutional and should be abolished, but one has to wonder WTH is going on behind the curtain at the ATF...

Correct. I was about to edit my post to acknowledge not everyone is being as fortunate. Next one could be a year.

Was something different about the process?
Paper vs electronic application maybe?

Got my barrel back from getting cut and re threaded Friday. I was supposed to get it March 4th, but the post office took it on a 3,949 mile road trip.

Picked up a Charter Arms 44 Bulldog a couple of days ago, mostly because it was "inexpensive", at least on today's market. I already load 44 Special to use in my Model 29-10, so it seemed like a good thing to try.

I'll take it to the range this morning, and see how bad the recoil is. It's a little heavier than my 642 airweight, but not as heavy as my all steel, 327 Taurus. Should be "interesting."

I've never heard of anyone getting one through that fast.
They have been taking progressively less time. Put shop had one in 10 days, then 7 days then 3 days. Mine this week took 44 hours, 5 minutes.

The NFA has made a change in how they process applications. Provided it is a) e-filed, b) is for an individual, and c) the SSN is included, the ATF will immediately request the FBI NICS check.

In the past they took the first in, first out thing literally, not submitting the next application for an FBI NICS check until the last one cleared. In essence if an applicant in a batch of requested checks had a delay or an open investigation to clear up something in the background check it held up the entire line until it was resolved.

I don’t want to sound like a cynic but that was clearly an overly literal application of the “first in, first out” probably intended as a delaying tactic.

Now, with immediate submission for the FBI NICS check, the ATF will immediately process the Form 4 when it comes back with a “proceed”.

You still might get a slight delay in the submission process as they still submit in batches. If the timing is right, your Form 4 will be attached with a batch ready to go out, while if it’s not good timing it might sit a few days before the next batch goes out.

The ATF has also started bundling multiple Form 4s. They have realized that if there are multiple Form 4s waiting for approval for an individual and they get a “proceed”, they can use that proceed to approve all of them. The fact they we’re not doing this before again suggests using an overly narrow read to require a separate FBI NICS check for all pending Form 4s as a delaying tactic - probably much to the annoyance of the FBI repeating unnecessary checks.

—-

Trusts still require all of the trust documents be manually read to ensure it’s a legal trust, and all of the questionnaires for responsible persons still need to be reviewed, but they are also being approved much faster.

——

It’s forcing shops to change their business models.

With Form 4 approvals coming in just a few days, shops are selling a lot more suppressors. It’s March and our local gun shop has sold almost twice as many suppressors as it did all last year.

In the past shops could sell the suppressor and then order the required accessories to accommodate the firearm(s) it would be used with while waiting for the approval. That’s no longer the case as it takes longer to order and receive the accessories than it takes to get the Form 4 approved.

With the increase in sales, accessories are now more likely to be out of stock, and that won’t make a customer happy if they can’t use the suppressor they just bought.

A shortage of suppressors is also very likely if the latent demand for suppressors by customers who didn’t want to wait the better part of a year in the past is large and sales continue to remain high.

Been on a bit of a buying spree recently, and for whatever reason the last 4 have all been Remington handguns and rifles. It started last fall when a friend called me to say he'd been in a local gun shop and they had two Remington .50 Navy handguns, and he thought he could get them both at a bargain by buying both. But he only wanted one, so we bought the pair and split the purchase equally.

Both were equal condition, with beautiful bores, and mechanics. So I let him take first pick and I took the other.

Then a couple weeks later I saw a Model 1891 Remington .22LR Target Pistol show up at an auction and I ended up getting it for the opening bid! It's a very unique custom built by Arthur Hubalek of NY City in the early 1900's, and Hubalek was a master barrel maker trained by HM Pope, and built mostly .22RF rifles. I was thrilled to own one of his Hubalek marked pistols.

Then just a few weeks ago I spotted another Remington rifle. It's a .32-20 built on a full sized Rolling Block rifle made in the 1870's, and in very nice shape also. Great bore, lots of bluing, really nice wood, but faded out case colors. Just a very pleasant old BP era rifle in a great cartridge. Has a modern reproduction vernier tang sight by MVA, and should make it easier to shoot accurately.

Then a week ago a local auction house had yet another Remington Rolling Block rifle on their site. I looked at it 3 times and finally blew up the images because something looked weird. I don't collect military rifles at all, but this one had a Model 1 1/2 Sporting Rifle octagon top action and buttstock with military barrel and full length forearm wood on it! The description said ".43 Spanish" which I knew was impossible as this size action wont accept a cartridge that large. I spent days searching all my reference books and couldn't find anything. I finally dug up an old advertisement for M. Hartley Co. in NY that showed 3 Cadet model rifles that said they were made exclusively for M. Hartley. One of them was the exact same gun, and the ad stated it was a .45-70 cartridge designed for military school students age 14-21 years.
I tossed a small bid on it and won it cheap!

The middle rifle in this ad is the same gun. M. Hartley Co. was Marcellus Hartley, who actually owned Remington Arms Co. since 1886 when he bought Remington after bankruptcy.

The rifle has dark wood, but in good condition, and a very good bore. Complete with wiping rod, but was missing the rear sling loop. I made one from one I found in my spares box and bent it open to remove the mount and fitted it to the trigger guard. Have to find a Remington bayonet, and sling some day. Only about 1000 of these ever made.

My Silencerco Omega 45K. 44 hours turn around from the ATF. The suppressor was purchased Tuesday and approved Thursday but the accessories won’t be here until Monday.

Picked this up at a show today. It has been on my shopping list and the price was too good to pass up.
Ready for can attachment.

Yeah, I have the old 3" tapered barrel "son of Sam" version.
They are light enough that they are a bit of a handful, but not unmanageable, IMO.
Definitely a reasonable alternative when you want something easy to carry and only a big-bore will do...

Try locating a suppressor now, imagine if they were cash and carry.

Well, I did take it to the range yesterday and put 55 rounds through it. The ammo I took were reloads I'd put up for use in my Model 29 and were 220 Berry's, over an almost max load of Unique (at least Max in my manual). It was eye opening . The same load that was a creampuff in the 29, was a handful in the Bulldog. Not unmanagable as you said, but not something I'd want to plink cans with.

I bet it was a flame thrower out of the Bulldog.

A bunch of pistol cases.

There's a particular case that I like that works perfectly for storage in my safe, and is relatively inexpensive. Unfortunately, I only know of one LGS that carries them... 300 miles away where we used to live. I can't find an online seller, and the maker won't sell them direct. Over the weekend, we were visiting friends in our old town, so I stopped in and bought a dozen... now I can get rid of a few mis-matched bags, and I have some extras for "new acquisitions"...

I was pretty miffed to arrive home and discover they reduced the size of the "large" case from 8x12 to 8x10, so they will no longer fit a 6" K frame. Fortunately, I can shuffle some 4" guns from the old large into the new large...

I'm envious of mm93's new collection of Remington rolling block pistols and rifles.

I like those! They look like they would stack a lot better than the regular triangular shaped cases, and I'd bet you can also fit two smaller guns into one case - with some kind of diagonal divider between them of course.

Does the manufacturer sell them other places besides that one store?

The company is called Roma, they make some fancy leather carry purses and other gear that they sell direct and through retailers, but these cases they only sell through retailers. I have yet to find an online seller that doesn't look sketchy and actually has them in stock at the price I've been getting them at ($10@). I've yet to see them in another LGS. It might be worth calling them to see if they have a brick/mortar retailer in your area.

The same load that was a creampuff in the 29, was a handful in the Bulldog. Not unmanagable as you said, but not something I'd want to plink cans with.
My PD issued me a 3" Bulldog as a back-up gun. I fired some Skeeter Specials through it. Even with rubber stocks, it killed at both ends!

The trilug adapter for my suppressor arrived Sunday and I was able to take it for a spin at the range this afternoon. Flawless performance.

I got a 14-3 SAO by accident...online seller never disclosed the SAO part, but it's growing on me. I like oddballs!

Probably with the blister pack hammer/trigger, but it could be factory. I'm not spending $100 to find out.

I'm in the process of building a .9mm pistol that takes Glock Mags and I just ordered one of the new Lipsey's 432UC snubs.

Well, the Amazon truck pulled up the other day and left a box 'o gun stuff. I'll start by saying that what was in that box was not crazy-expensive. In fact, it was pretty darned inexpensive, but the reviews were good, and I get the free shipping, and returns are awfully easy to arrange, so I figured "what the heck", and mashed the Buy Now button.

Box 'o stuff arrived the next day.

I have loved my Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm from the day I got it. However, between the fine checkering on the mainspring housing and the frontstrap, and the aggressive texture of the G10 grip scales, I've found the gun just a tad abrasive for prolonged shooting sessions. So, I went looking for a smooth set of grips for it, preferably gray and preferably of a robust nature. Lo and behold, in short order Amazon turns up this pretty set of Guuun grips in smooth finished faux wood G10, complete with screws, for just $13.95.

Also in the box, I have this Solofish MLOK LED tac-light. I've been setting up another house gun of late, starting with a Ruger PC9 Charger with the Glock mag well, which I SBRed and installed a single point sling and a Vortex SPARC Solar red dot. All it needed to make it ready to serve was a good light. Realistically, I was expecting to be underwhelmed by this light for just $32.70, and only time will tell if it's really worthy, but so far...I like it. It uses USB charging, it's certainly bright enough, and with a single button I can control temporary on, constant on, or strobe features.

I got one for my form 1 suppressor.

Not sure if your rifle has a thread protector. My SP5, and SP5K both do. I'm going to Rocksett my thread protectors on. It would be a nightmare for the protector to back off just enough to not allow the tri lug adapter to come off.

Two bricks of CCI #500 Small Pistol Primers, from Midway's free hazmat sale this past weekend. With shipping, but free hazmat and no sales tax in my state, about $0.50 more per pack than Cabela's, but Cabela's only sells two 100 packs per customer, not 2 bricks. Also worth not having to fight traffic and the 25 mile round trip to the busiest shopping plaza in the region.
