Colt Navy contract 1911 from 1913 shipment. One of a shipment of 5,800. Wonder how many are left?

Blind Horse Knife
Saw this in a local ad and really liked it so I picked it up as my new camping bush knife. I did a little research and the partners/company that made these are no longer in business. I think they may have been in business +-5 years. It feels good in hand.

Just bought a new rollmark Series 70 Colt 1911, specifically for the purpose of building a full house custom. But once I received it, stripped it down and took a really close look, I was blown away by its quality, fit and finish. Even the trigger pull is first rate. Now I'm radically rethinking exactly what I intend to modify. I'll shoot is first to see how accurate it is and probably let that set the tone of the build.
After a lot of thought and research, I've decided on a "retro" build primarily using Harrison Design parts and an Ed Brown "drop in" match barrel/bushing/.278" link. I've decided NOT to tighten the slide to the frame since this gun's dimensions appear very good as they are. Not match tight but not a rattle battle either. The Brown barrel has a reputation of nicely closing up tolerances in unmodified guns, but if oversized, not requiring a whole lot of work to fit properly. The Harrison Design parts include: retro rear sight, semi-patridge serrated pin in front sight, black long trigger, recoil spring guide, extreme service thumb safety, plunger tube and slide stop, "retro" ignition set (spur hammer/sear/disconnector) and extended magazine release. In addition I'm going to fit an ISMI 18# recoil spring and a Colt Gold Cup serrated main spring housing (assuming it fits well enough to satisfy my rather picky gunsmith). His labor will include: serrating the front strap to match the MSH, a very subtle dehorn to remove all sharp edges, blending the rear of the slide to the rear of the frame once the barrel is fit, a subtle bead blast blue to match the finish on the Harrison Design parts, blue the hammer/sear/disconnector, and polish the slide flats and the sides of the hammer for a subtle brushed look. I'm keeping the dimensions of the frame unchanged (no high grip front strap) and the original grip safety is retained as are the original grips. Pictures will be posted once the build is complete, somewhere around the first week of January 2017.

Bought a 20" barrel, upper receiver and furniture to put on an old Colt lower. I had to rob the lower from my "610" clone, but it wasn't very correct anyway.

Purchased a Ruger SR1911 CMD last week and managed to get to the range. Ran 150 rounds thru it. Wow! Just a great shooter and pretty as well!

been holding off on adding another handgun to the small collection after i got my PC Shield, and waiting until spring to look at getting a shotgun for some skeet/fun shooting....
So in the meantime my purchases have been ammo based, the more ammo i get the more range trips i can take... practice and play time are a plus for me in this hobby

well I picked up a pair of new carry guns today, a new in the box Sig 290 and a lnib Kimber ultra raptor with some nice leather
have not shot the Sig yet but I put 5 rounds down the barrel of the Kimber at the 3" flapper on my ar500 rifle targets at 20 yards this afternoon, 3 hit the flapper the other 2 just missed on the edge, it is going to be a keeper!
would have shot more but did not have my ears and they are ringing bad enough now

I got a "Caliber X-Change" kit from SIG Sauer to convert my my accurate, reliable, but somewhat boring P320 9mm into a semi-exotic .357 SIG. That's like giving up the girl next door for Penelope Cruz. I can live with that.

I picked up this Winchester 1892 today. It was refinished at some point and rechambered from 44/40 to 44 Magnum. The previous owner, a older fellow, said that the rechambering was done by Jack Roy.
For those unfamiliar with Jack Roy's, he was a Detroit area gunsmith and a friend of mine in the 1970's. Long gone, Jack was the reason I got into collecting S&W's. There's a tread on Jack if you do a search here.
I just couldn't wait to try it out. Even with the wind chill down to below zero and a quick couple of supported shots, it shot point of aim, point of impact and digested lead SWC's to jacketed hollow points without a hitch. Grouping was respectable enough for hunting accuracy with open sights and 64 year old eyes at 50 yards.
Nice way to close out the year and remember an old friend.

So far this year we have gotten two.
Mossberg 590.
This one recently.
Henry in .357 Magnum. That one is really a gift from a forum where my better half has been a member and moderator of for many years and recently had her 20,000th post and they did a fundraiser for us as a gift and thank you. We both found that to be very generous and thoughtful. We have enough left over to consider getting a fine quality scope suitable for the rifle and caliber.

I bought a WW2 British Lanchester Mk. 1* submachinegun. I am anticipating that the ATF paperwork will be approved in May or June. The consensus of my California friends is that I'm nuts, and they wish they could own a machinegun too.

Hello, I bought myself a early birthday present (12/24) at my lgs. It was a laserlyte for my NAA 22 mag. Took it out of the package and the laser didn't work! Shucks, put in new batteries no laser. So I got a Laser NO lyte! Took it back for a refund. I guess it wasn't meant be. I thought laserlyte was a good product.

After I got the Ithaca M1911A1,
I became obsessed with getting a WWII magazine from each of the manufacturers.
The last of the five is the unmarked one on the left, made by Colt:

Yesterday I had a buttstock and a grip for my AR delivered. It will become a featureless AR in California so I don't have to register it.

Bought this new 12ga Remington 870 express a few months ago, I've had later purchases, but somehow I still feel like this is my latest, maybe it's because it is still unfired.

Just sealed the deal on a Colt Sporter Lightweight today while doing a bit of last minute Christmas shopping with the wife. Was kinda worried because I was on speaker phone with my dad (he was at the gun shop looking at it for me) and my wife was sitting next to me listening to the whole thing.....but before the call was done she paid for it!!! Merry Christmas to me, I've got a keeper. Truth is I knew it a long time ago but she still surprises me.
Dealer's pic of the Colt, and one of my lovin wife so I can really show off!

Sorry no pics. Very clean old Mossberg 835 3 1/2 inch Ultra Mag 12 gauge pump with a 28 inch barrel for $250. One hell of a waterfowl slayer.
