My latest purchase was a Henry Golden Boy 22 lr with large loop. My grandson said we needed one. He thinks I will give it to him. Someday but not today.

Kahr CW380(my new summer carry to be) and one of those CHP 4006TSW. The Kahr goes to the range tomorrow for breaking in, the CHP needs ammo, I don't have any "Fortays".

Any of you who read Anniversary Pesent EPIC Fail... know my last gun purchase didn't work out so well.
OK, this time I went for a pistol that would be a fun plinker for me and a great, lower cost shooting trainer for my wife. She has a Browning Black Label 1911-.380 with the rail. I've wanted to get a used Browning Black Label 1911-22 rail model for two years but can never find one. Sure, you can get them new for $600 to $630, but all the used ones seem to be the GI model with the useless GI style sights and short trigger.
So, when my LGS bought the 63 from me, I asked him to get me a price on the 1911-22 model with the rail. His cost from the cheapest of three distributors was $569. Add his mark -up and PA 6% tax and the OTD was $645. So I went snooping the web and scored a much better deal, with one caveat. (more on that later)
Browning made a 2015 Shot Show exclusive 1911-22 Lite with a rail and fire-site fiber optic sights. The exact configuration I wanted except for one hideous feature. Some genius thought engraving a giant, deep Browning Buckmark logo into the slide was a good idea. Pretty sure the distributors who bought these ended up sitting on their inventory, which worked out for me. I found one for $464 shipped. My LGS agreed to accept it for no fee, just the $7 he charges for the PICS check. Cool. New gun for less than used.
Shot it with four different kinds of ammo Saturday, No failures of any kind. Fair accuracy. My wife really likes it, and raved about the sights. Now, to dull down that huge birthmark on the slide! FORGOT- $50 Browning rebate too!!

I walked out of Cabela's today with a first year production Ruger Blackhawk .30 carbine that is almost unfired. A little bartering and added military discount plus 2 boxes of cartridges & tax cost me $560.

added 8/10/17: Talk about luck, I visited Cabela's again last week & found a third year production .30 carbine Blackhawk (shooter grade) for $100 less than the first one! Now I have a shooter & a safe queen to boot.

I'd enjoyed some 9MM/38 Super conversions I'd done on 1911 type pistols before. I have a Kimber Eclipse Target in 38 Super that has performed flawlessly since Day-1 with any ammo I could stuff into it. I decided to make it a 9MM too, and tried to buy a new 9MM barrel from Kimber. The Customer Service lady at Kimber was very nice, but but wouldn't sell me a barrel. I decided to try a modestly priced Remsport 9MM barrel. Minimal fitting resulted in a pistol that locks up tight in battery, displays flawless reliability and excellent accuracy. This, with no other changes whatsoever to the base 38 Super pistol. Same extractor, ejector, recoil spring, etc. No tweaking/tuning/adjusting/polishing or parts changing required. I'd previously used Bar-Sto, Schuemann, KART, etc., both gunsmith fit and semi drop-in barrels. The Remsport barrel produced the best results, with the least work and expense, of any aftermarket barrel I've ever used. Must have been living right for a change

Default Finally...!

I had posted about this gun about a month ago, I had it on layaway at the LGS, but had some questions about it's origins, something that with input from a couple forum members, has possibly been solved... Well here she is, finally home after a month of waiting. I had planned on picking it up a few weeks ago, however a West German Sig P226 ended up coming home that day instead...

Anyway, she's a 1950 year of manufacture Colt Official Police in 38 special. There is plenty of finish wear from years of carry, but the lock-up is tight, the bore and chambers are immaculate, and the serrations on the trigger are almost painfully sharp, suggesting little actual firing.

A note on the grips: They are not the originals like I had thought, and didn't quite fit very well. Whereas the originals would have been Coltwood plastic, these are the aftermarket reproduction walnut grips sold by Numrich, and they overhung the backstrap slightly. As they were already chipped up along the back edge, I spent some time refitting them this afternoon, and touching up their finish. As good as they look, the reproduction grips look, the laser cut checking is a bit aggressive, and they feel cheap, so I am definitely going to try and find the correct period grips to put on it.

I do however suspect that the Tyler T-Grip is original or at least has been with the gun for the majority of its life, as it sports a similar amount of finish wear to the rest of the gun. I have surmised that the gun may have been taken in by the LGS with cracked Coltwood Grips, and they installed the replacements before putting it out for sale.

Those of you who had followed the original narrative about how I came to choose this old Colt, may recall my musings about buying a S&W Model 36, which was the original intent when I walked into the LGS that day, one that had been there for a while (and still is apparently) for a decent price, and similar in condition to this OP. So, why did I choose the Colt over the Model 36? First, because I had an old Bucheimer Guardian holster for it:

As the holster and gun both came from the same LGS, purchased about a two weeks apart, and of the exact same early 50s time period, I suspect this gun may have come in with the holster, was separated, holster went into the junk bin, gun waited for new grips, and then was put out for sale. This is just a theory though, and I could not confirm it.

Here's reason number two why I chose the Colt over the Model 36:

This agency stamp indicates that it was a LEO issued revolver, in this case I suspect was issued by the Nevada Highway Patrol in 1950. PoliceRevolverCollector did confirm to me that the Colt Official Police was being issued by the NHP at that time, so it would be reasonable to assume this as its origin, though a factory letter would be definitive, and I may get one at some point.

I am a diehard S&W revolver fan for life, but there is something alluring to me about these old Colts, maybe it's just because I live in CT, 20 minutes from the factory, or maybe it's because at one time, Colt made some fantastic revolvers. All I know for sure is that she needs to get to the range for some target practice.

In conclusion, I submit a photo of my recently acquired West German Sig P226. I actually traded another 226 in 22LR plus cash for this one, and I am glad I did. She is hands-down the best 9mm pistol money can buy, and owning one is a dream come true....

Picked up 2 guns I had been thinking over for awhile, decided if I don't make a move I'd regret it later.
1st one is a Beretta 92S, with the weird magazine release in the base of the grip. My son had been pestering me about one , and the only ones I'd seen locally were both beaten up and overpriced. I glanced the other day and saw some listed at an ok range, so I picked the cleanest one and made my bid. Somebody pushed the price up, but I ended up winning with a couple bucks to spare...

2nd gun is the oddball PHP MV9, a Croatian design made back during the Bosnian war. It's an ugly little sucker, looks like a cross between a Walther P38 and a Beretta 92. Same manufacturer now makes the XD, this was their first design. Prices tend to be low... I always have glanced at it, said "maybe sometime" and moved along.
Now the websites that list them are saying "broken or no grips only", so I figured if I was ever going to get one, I'd better do it now.
Found one listed online for auction, and again, watched as my bid got pushed. I won this one on my maximum bid, I didn't have another penny to spare. But I won

pics to come
As promised

Oh, and laugh if you like, at the ugly PHP. I took it to the range today for the first time, not expecting much. This was my first 5 shot group at 10 yds

and yes, the flyer was on me

Default Latest accessories purchases, etc ...

... for one thing, and all of you .380 folks out there might want to check these out, I bought 3 boxes of Precision One .380 90 gr. XTPs. According to the ultimate .380 Challenge, these were the best and actually lived up to FBI standards as far as penetration and expansion for the .380 round. Not a single other round had as high marks as these do based on the FBI's standards. Now that's the round I want in my carry pistol, and now I do.

Then I picked up a set of these for my M&P Bodyguard: Williams Fire Sight Set S&W Bodyguard 380 Fiber Optic. For the price, about $30.00 USD, I couldn't pass them up. I think they'll be much better than the factory sights. Not that the factory sights are bad, in fact, the one time I fired the gun in "anger", if you will, I didn't even use the sights and scored 2 direct hits to the spine of the offending critter. Yes, it was close range, about 15 feet actually but still for a pull the gun from an IWB holster and shoot kind of situation I thought that was pretty good from my little Bodyguard 380. Go Smith & Wesson M&P products!

The last thing I got were 2 additional factory magazines for it. I have 20 magazines for my Rock River Arms LAR-15, so I figured having 4 magazines for the gun I carry and shoot quite a bit was a good idea.

And that's all folks. Safe shooting to ya'll!

Let's see...

A S&W Model 5946, ANIB at the gun show last week. I wasn't looking for it. I walked past a vendor's table, it called out to me, and then it followed me home.
Later, on-line I bought an additional 3 high-capacity factory magazines to complement the package.

Best wishes everyone!

Ahhh the precursor to the XD! Be careful disassembling that PHP. If you do a detailed disassembling you'll need 5 hands to put it together.

Tell me about it! I field stripped and cleaned it on arrival, watching a youtube video. Mine's actually the later, easier one to do- I don't even have to fiddle with the spring. Did this several times to get comfortable with it.

My son and I shot at the range, and he also shoots the CZ 75 I have gifted him... so I was taking the PHP down to show him, preparing to clean it (he REALLY liked this as a shooter). He sat next to me, as I was going through the steps. I had the slide off and was working on wiggling the barrel out, while he watched... and was examining the frame.

He said, "here, you left this", and placed the takedown lever on the mat we were using!
Luckily the detent didn't come out, and I was able to use a small allen wrench as a punch to press it back down and slip the lever back into place.
But not before I said something to the effect of "what.. oh God stop it... " he now knows not to do that again!

Default eahicks ... great guns

I love mine! Also, check out the Precision One .380, 90 grain XTP rounds, according to the .380 Challenge they're the only ones that passed the test as far as FBI standards for both penetration and expansion in a .380. I just got 3 boxes to start carrying in my Bodyguard.

I am trying too make sure that my collection doesn't get Korth-heavy. While I have quite a few OEM S&W FGC for K&L-square butts and plenty of FGC RB, I only have one FGC in N-SB and it will be mounted later tomorrow. Strangely it has TH and TT but Magna grips.

A S&W M27-2 from around 1977.

Default ANOTHER 15 SHOOTER

I just can't pass up a decent deal on a Model 15 shooter. Found this nice 15-4 locally, used but not abused, and had to have it

and yes, the flyer was on me

In another thread I mentioned I was looking for a holster for a 3 inch J-frame.

On the way home yesterday I stopped by one of my favorite local gun shops and lo and behold what did I see on a shelf behind the counter but a Hunter holster, with a Brauer Brothers cartridge-loop belt (that fits me!). The belt was even loaded up with 30 rounds of classic nickel cased 130gr LRN ammo.

It may not have been a total steal at $35, but I'm quite happy with the deal.

added another rifle to the family

, I was watching the local arms list the other day and a lady posted this weatherby 308 for trade, she had a picture of a target showing a 4 inch group at fifty yards, and the gun in a left hand right action boyds stock, she had decided that a 308 was to much gun and to heavy and wanted to trade for something lighter. she had the factory stock and 4 boxes of shells to go with it

so I made contact with her and it turned out she just lived 5 miles from my hunting farm where I have a 100 yd. static range set up,

I traded her a savage B-mag with the plastic stock and heavy stainless barrel with a bsa 17wsm scope on it that is a tack driver

after her first shot with the b mag she was in love with the gun. she was shooting at a 1inch bullseve and put her first three rounds into it, and then I let her shoot a 1/2 gallon water filled milk jug at 200 yds with it and she saw the power of the little round

so we traded and I took procession of the like new stainless weatherby accugard In that purple stock with a bass pro shop redhead rim fire scope on it. and 4 boxes of 308 Tula steel 150 grain ammo.

she said she bought the scope because it looked pretty on the rifle

I told her that her rifle had the wrong glass and with better ammo, and glass it would shoot a lot better

but she said she loved the little savage and all she basically did was shoot paper on her home 50 yd. range

and just to keep me from feeling like a thief I gave her 150 to boot

after she left I put three rounds of 168 grain match through it at 100 and they landed in a 1 inch group with the little $60 dollar scope

so now I am going to put it back in its original weaterby laminated stock, when I get in its new glass, and will have a purple stock and a silver 3x9x40 rimfire scope to place on my table at the next gun show

here it is next to pre 64 Winchester 70 target setting in its new home

Korth/Nighthawk Mongoose delivered last week and a Wilson Combat EDC X9 double stack ordered yesterday which begins an 8-10 month wait as WC works their way through their backlog.

Oh, and a light for my M&P R8.

We have a monthly swap the first Saturday of each month at the local wildlife club. A gentleman had a 4" .357 stainless Security Six for sale (#153 serial number). I had a .40 S&W that I swapped into last year. We came to an agreement and I have another Six. It hasn't been fired much and it doesn't have any holster wear.

I'm happy!

I acquired a Smith & Wesson Model 31-1 with 2" barrel, round butt and factory nickel finish. Pretty scarce around these parts.

Default 686-4

I recently purchased this nice 686-4 from a forum member. The 686-4 is the last variant that used forged trigger and hammer

Palmetto... these guys are wearing out my wallet with their prices.

Had an old Bushmaster non threaded HBAR A2. I don't shoot it but now and then I drag the wife to the club with me and she shoots it. Last time we were out she complains that her rifle is heavier than mine, and how come she just gets a plastic handguard (acutually she don't give a rats about the rifle but she likes to give me a hard time). So.... being the kind and loving husband that I am....

Palmetto had these stainless slim profile mid-length gas system uppers with 13in M-LOK free float handguard for $219. How's a guy supposed to pass that up? Slapped on her Bushmaster lower and grabbed a red dot off one of my AR .22s... presto chango!

Bought part of a gun today. Ciener 1911 conversion .22. Had been on Armslist locally for a while. Price came down to $100. Did not waste time. 2 magazines included. It is on my S&W frame. We shall see at the range how well it functions. Anybody else try this conversion? Bob

Three things in the past week actually...a full box of Lapua 7.62x39 wooden training ammo and an original 222 Rem Special experimental cartridge (what would become 5.56/223), and a nice Trailmaster holster from Earl Southard for my 5" Model 27-2.

I ordered an NDZ aluminum mag bottom, a Maglula mag loader, a Hogue beavertail grip (which I may sell, I don't think I'll use it) a Remora holster with the free mag pouch and shooters glasses, and they're all for this which came last week.
