i know this is a S&W forum but i need to find some info on a very old shotgun
my grandfather recently gave me a gun to clean up for him and find some info on. its a J. Stevens Arms hinge action 20 guage shot gun but the gun doesnt have any serial numbers that im familiar with... just one under the foregrip that says HE 554... nothing else anywhere in the gun. its my great grandfathers and my grandfather believes it to be from the 1920's or maybe earlier and im kinda lost... the only thing i can really find on the internet about J Stevens Arms Co. is that they were bought by the Savage Arms Co. way back in the day... its probably not worth much but its extremely important to my grandfather due to the fact that it is the only thing he has of my great grandfather due to a fire so any help someone can give me is greatly appreciated heres a couple pictures... not sure how that sexy black rifle got in there
Thats a cool looking shotgun, the gap between the barrel and the breech would make me hesitant about shooting it, What guage is it or do you know? A competent gunsmith could probably make it shootable again?
Good luck
It is kinda similar to my savage single shot 16 guage from the late 50's
It's a 20ga and it's not shootable at the moment.... After sitting in the attic of a very damp WV home of my great aunt... It needed tlc to begin with... What I thought was te firing pin fell out an revealed itself as cut off drywall nail and was very rusty. Just wanted to restore it as much as I can just for sentimental value
