i paid about 40 times that for this like new in box RR almost 20 years ago. it shipped from the CMP in 62 and includes the original box, mags, grease paper and CMP paperwork including the money order receipt for $17.00. have never shot it and probably never will. got other shooters. lee

A10, it's original finish. i've seen several later RRs that were this lighter shade of parkerizing. it's in the 2,436,XXX range so it is getting near the end of the war. this one obviously didn't make it to war. lee

Lee, whatever you do please do not get rid of the box and documents. That really adds to the value of your 1911A1. I had a buddy that once we did some horse trading. We swapped a saur 38H in 32 auto and a 1943 1911A1 and a cigar box of assorted ammo. Well he went on to write a book telling of his experiences during WWII and it dawned on me that the swapped 45 was his service pistol. Sadly he passed before I could write to him to get confirmation. So every time I unlimber his 45 those shots are for him. Frank

Saw one absolutely identical around here a while back, papers, box and all. At least I had the thrill of handling it. It started out, I forget exactly, about $1700 and last time I saw it was lowered to $1300.

I have two Remington Rand 1911A1's that were purchased by members of my family from the DCM for $17 each. Both are about brand new. I also have a brand new 1911 Colt that I purchased from the DCM for $17 Also I have three 1903A3's that were purchsed by members of my family and myself. They were new never fired and cost $14 each. I could not afford a new M1 Rifle as they were $95 each. Also M1 carbines were $17 each. I have three (when my Dad and Mom passed , I got their weapons) Purchase requirements were that you had to be a member of the NRA. NRA membership was about $5 per year and members of your family could buy a associate membership for $2.50 Associate members did not receive the Americam Rifleman magazine but could buy one of each item for sale. There was a one weapon of each type limit on all purchases. In other words, you could only purchase one 1911A1 pistol for yourself, but your wife Mom or Dad could purchase one of each type for themselves if they paid $2.50 for an associte membership in the NRA. It seems too good to be true, but that is how it was in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Change is not always good!

I forgot add that shipping and handling was $2.50 for the DCM purchased weapons. Most of the 1911's were brand new or in excellent shape. You could not pick what you wanted as far as manufacturer or condition was concerned. You got what the "sarge" picked out for you (luck of the draw) All the Springfields 1903A3's were new as was the M1 Grarands. The carbines were mixed new and used excellent condition. You could also puchase ammo and accessories. at cheap prices. I am happy that I was around for this opportunity of a life time........maybe that is why they called it "happy days" Don't forget that the minium wage was about 80 cents per hour back then. Being old does sometime have it's advantages.
