Default Any Browning Superposed gurus on the board?

If so, I'd like your opinion on something. Would the Superposed ever have been offered with a cheekpiece on the stock? If so, does this look original?

I'm not sure about that. I'll dig around.

I don't "know" but I'd suspect this was an aftermarket stock or special order after the fact. These guns came out when the Winchester 21's were big and several other SXS and over-unders were in great use for hunting and competition. The Superposed was a heavy but balanced gun and I doubt this gun/stock configuration is balanced. I look forward to an answer from someone that is in authority on the question. JMO

I'm suspecting a restock as well. I personally don't care for it even if it was original.

I'm going out on a limb here and say it's not original.

Having said that, you could order them in a lot of different configurations.

Here's what I know, and this is kind of etched in stone. LOP on a standard gun is 14 1/4", regardless of wether a recoil pad is installed or a solid butt plate. The only deviation is for the trap/skeet guns, which are 14 1/2", as above. If yours is a different LOP, I would think that would cinch it.

Btw, I looked at a bunch of Superposed guns, and none had a cheek comb. I'm going to keep looking for a bit though.

I'm no expert, so that alone makes me qualified to comment; with that disclaimer, you can't sue me if I am wrong.

It would be unlikely for a Superposed other than a trap to have a cheekpiece, and all the Superposed trap guns I have seen have a much tighter pistol grip. It is not impossible, but I have seen at least a thousand Superposed traps at state shoots and the Grand, and have never seen a cheekpiece.

I'm pretty into Browning Superposed shotguns and I have not seen such a stock on their standard Grade guns. The higher end of the line like the Diana, Midas and Exhibition Grades can be ordered with just about anything the customer is willing to pay for, but if the one in the photo is a Grade I or II, I highly doubt it is original.

I'm betting "no". Superposed stocks, until 1967 had a round knob on the pistol grip and afterward, the pistol grip was flat and flush with the stock. This stock looks to have an extended flat pistol grip with a cap on it. I have a Superposed and follow them on Shotgunworld.com occasionally. I have never seen a stock like this one, so I assume it's an aftermarket item.

Default Browning Superposed............

I worked at the Browning Arms Gunsmithing Shop in Arnold, MO for several years in the late '70's and early '80's. I never saw a factory superposed with a stock like yours. They did keep a few "blanks" around for special orders, I only saw maybe 2 or 3 custom stocks made in the gunsmith shop. None had monte carlo cheekpieces. I believe your stock is an aftermarket addition.

That's an interesting stock. It sure looks Weatherby-ish. I would bet it is not factory, but the resemblance to the Weatherby style is so unmistakable that I wonder if the original owner was not also a fancier of Weatherby rifles.
