Default Charter Arms Help

Hello all,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I read a lot more than I write.

I read through the thread on the Charter Arms Undercover and was glad to see that there are many enthusiasts on board. Everyone that I have owned have been good performers.

Currently, I'm looking for a complete teardown and re-assembly manual for the Undercover .38. This is a Stratford Gen 1 revolver.

I've searched online and have been through all my reference/gunsmithing books and can not find this model.

Does anyone here have a scource for this.

Many thanks in advance..

Tim

Tim,

Those first generation Charter Arms guns all come apart and reassemble virtually the same. I have the disassembly/assembly steps with photos for the Charter 44 Bulldog and will make a copy and send it to you if you still need it. PM me with an email address.

One thing to watch out for is the nylon lock-washer on the crane retaining screw. It’s very thin and easily lost.

Kel

I needed to replace pawl and hand. The cylinder would free spin sometimes and would jam up other times.

I tried those stevespages links. They did not work. I think they are down. I need detailed step by step instructions on putting this thing back together. If anyone knows how your help will be greatly appreciated.

Be very careful of the cylinder latch plunger and its spring. Part #s 10 and 11. They can run away and hide.

Regards,

Both links opened for me.

The first one is an exploded drawing. The second one is an owners manual. It has disassembly instructions, but it is more of a "field strip" than a "detail strip".

I recommend a copy of J. B. Woods' book.

I finally got it back together. I had to do some fitting to get the the new parts to work properly . It now functions properly and I am very pleased with it. Now that I have taken it apart and put it back together several times its not that hard anymore.

I know this is an older post but I would like these instructions as well. Thank you for any help you can provide.

How does the hook on the spring on the trigger go? Does it go under parts 42 and 38, or just sit in there loose/

resurrection time.... I'd love to see a video of how to replace the hand and cylinder stop/bolt. the hand especially since these guns can go out of time easily in .44spl caliber.
