I am sure there will be those ready to tell you how awful the 700 is (according to ABC News, or whomever... ) but I think you got a heck of a deal. You can shoot that barrel out and you'll still have a perfect action to make yourself a nice .223 bullgun, or whatever else you might like with a .222 bolt face. Nice old rifle and telescope.

Good pick-up. The Remington 700 action is one
of, if not the best action for the money you can buy.
I had a little model 7 Remington in .17 and it was a
very good shooter.
My gunsmith friend says he would rather work on
a 700 action than anything else. Very reliable and
easy to work on should it need any mods done or
rebarrel/trigger work etc....
