Default Remington Model 11 C Trap Grade

I thought I'd post here to see if anyone knew anything about this model.
Any idea how many were made?

I've posted in shotgunworld (tainted with viruses, apparently) and Remington Society (slow site, these days)

What's a Model 11 C worth these days?

What a beautiful classic shotgun.
I don't have any idea on production numbers of the graded Remington autos and pumps, but they have to be some of the most under appreciated classic guns out there.

FWIW,,I had an F grade Model 11 sent to me by a dealer/collector some years back for some fix-em-up restoration for resale purposes.
I was so impressed by the old girl, I couldn't let it go back w/o a complete restoration. It just screamed for it. The wood was gorgeous French Walnut.
So I went ahead and did the work.
I only charged the customer for the few small repairs he had originally requested. Ones to make it table-worthy at a show.

When he received it back,,he was angry. Not at the bill,,but that I would have taken time to do that at all on a Remington shotgun.
He said I could have been working on 'better things' for him,,read that making him and others more money.
He later told me it sold within a few minutes of first putting it out on a table at a major gunshow.
They never understood,,and it's one reason among others that I got away from their work.
Some of us really do appreciate these things for what they are.

A Model 10 'D' almost came home w/me from an OGCA show,,but the bbl had been cut as well as the butt stock. The stock I could deal with,
the bbl was too big of a problem for the bottom line price and condition.

Oooh, that's one of those awfully dangerous automatic shotguns that should be banned. The best thing to do with that is send it to me and I'll properly dispose of it for you. I'm so concerned with your safety that I'll even reimburse you for the shipping costs. :-)

I have an old Military one with the shorter barrel and "Military Finish".
Was given to me since the charging handel was broke, that's how I can tell you that Browning Auto 5 parts are interchangeable.

Wish I could help with the correct pricing, however I think it is worth about $100.00 and seeing as how I'm a really good guy, I'll make it $125.00. No No don't thank me, really, I mean it.

That is one beautiful shotgun.

I'm unable to be specific but I once owned a Model 11 with the safety located in front of the trigger where yours is located that was an early 1940's vintage. Yours has the straight stock and looks to be in very good condition for its age. Have you tried just Googling Model 11 C Remington? I am a real fan of the Reminmgton M-11 made on the Browning patent, well made and very dependable! Being a "TRAP Grade also makes it special!

Google knows nothing short of the original catalog listings of the different grades, which is very limited.

The trigger guard safety changed around 1928.

I'm a Model 11 fan, big time, but there just isn't a lot of info on the Trap grade.

The D, E, and F grades are gorgeous.

Got it in today. Felt like it took a year! LOL

The barrel serial # matches the receiver. It's original. Not sure why it's not marked "11-C"

Another oddity - The forend has the # "4" stamped on it - As in #4, or D grade wood. I haven't got to the buttstock, and probably won't for a few days. The recoil does not look original, however the stock isn't cut. It still has the curve to it. Easy fix, there.

From what I know of the Remington c/f rifles of the era, the 'C' grade won't be marked as such. It is identified by the European walnut stock & forend and the checkering pattern.
Field grade (A) was supplied w/ American Walnut.
There was no 'B grade' in the rifles or the shotguns AFAIK

However the wood has the serial number and a 'C' stamped on the inside somewhere, both butt stock and forend.
...again this is on the rifles I have had experience with.

(The F Grade Model 11 I mentioned in my fist post is the only high grade early repeater Remington shotgun I can recall restoring.
I don't recall how the wood was marked on it. A guess is that they used the same system. But it's always bad to guess!)

Going up in grade, they start to be engraved, and the Grade designation (D,ect) is hand engraved on the gun. The serial number is also hand engraved on these higher grades,,not stamped in.

I have had a few high grade ('D' and above) 1100 model Remingtons to repair and restore and they still followed the pattern of having the grade and serial number hand engraved into the gun.
They had the grade and even the inspection marks hand cut onto the bottom of the bbls,,no stamps used. So the part(s) were never just taken off the 'line' I'd guess.
The serial number, grade and 'Remington' was hand cut onto the left side of the receiver on these also.

The pad on your 11 does look like it may be a later addition. The toe line is a bit off from an absolute straight line fit.
However pads, especially those original ones from that era, are very prone to damage as they age. They even disintegrate after the composition brakes down w/time.
It's certainly not uncommon to find them replaced on an older gun.

Vintage style replacements are readily available, so are original style hard rubber butt plates which may be more appropriate since the gentle curve of the H/R butt plate fit to the stock is still present.

Beautiful shotgun..

I didn't know there was a B grade in the Model 11 shotguns offered.

They didn't in the Model 8 & 14 rifles, it's just missing from the line up.
Also missing from the Model 81 when they changed it over to those.

It did mysteriously appear in the Model 81 around 1939 but it was just the C grade with a lesser name,,the C grade designation then disappeared.
May have had something to do with Euro Walnut getting scare at the time.
I don't know now if the Mod 141 followed the same path or not.

Thanks for posting the info on the M11 Remington
