Default Winchester 9422 value...

My LGS has a fairly early 9422 (non XTR) with a beautiful fiddle-back pattern in the non- checkered buttstock walnut and nicely grained fore end. Rifle is a solid 98%, though the rear sight was removed for scope mounting. The scope is a classic gem- Colorado made Redfield, 4X 3/4 inch tube Rimfire scope. Seems the scope is fairly collectible on its own- bringing $150 to $190 on ebay and gun broker.

$775 OTD-- Opinions please!

A clean 9422 will usually sell for anywhere from $550 to $650 around here. I see some guys at the shows asking more but they usually take the gun home with them too. I don't pay much attention to scope prices so can't commit on the scope value. If you like the rifle make an offer on it, maybe they have a little dealin' room.

Recently when I was scouring the various classifieds for a 357 lever I saw several 9422's listed. In general the asking prices were in the 700-800 range. Don't know how many sold at that price.

With that scope especially, which is well matched in size to the rifle, it sounds like a pretty good package deal to me. Of course, one always wants to try for the best deal, but a 9422 is a classic, the scope is right sized classic for it, and it sounds like attractive wood on the rifle. What's $50 + or - where you want to be for a nice classic combination? I have a couple of 9422s and actually like them even more than my Marlins. They feel right, look right, carry right, and are slicker in action.

Or would you give them the contents of your wallet?

I've been home sick with nasty bronchitis the past two days. Had to ask the LGS to hold it for me until I get in with my trade bait. He needs stock so a couple or three of my not often fired 22's may end up with a new home.

The 94/22 is one of the finest rimfires ever made. I have never owned one that didn't shoot like a benchrest gun. I got one for Christmas in 1976 ($165 brand new) and it makes sick everytime I think about the gun trade I did that let it slip away.
At one time Winchester advertised there ~48 manufacturing steps that were done by hand making it one of the most expensive guns in their line. I believe in 1976 94 30/30's weren't even $100 new.

2 words: Buy IT

If it is in as good as shape as you say then the rifle would be in the $700 range, assuming the scope is worth $75. Pristine versions with original box typically go for $1000+.

There have been a lot of counterfeit 9422 rifles that have appeared lately. I would be happy to examine the rifle to determine if it is a genuine 9422 or a cheap Chinese copy. I know you would not want your friends to laugh at you when you show them your rifle, and they see that it is a cheap Chinese counterfeit.

As an exercise in economics reality, I plugged those numbers into the inflation calculator
Inflation Calculator | Find US Dollar's Value from 1913-2013

and today's break-even cost would be $665.78
