Default .32 ACP pistol

I bought one of these in the 60s for $15. and later decided I didn't need it and sold it for $17.50. Years later I wished I hadn't sold it and decided if I could find another one at a decent price I would buy it but I never saw one that I thought was a decent price. Last Thur. I found this one. The price wasn't good but I decided I was not going to die without one. I bought a box of shells and have shot half of them and the gun works good. My BIL gave me the Rem. shell box with 6 bullets and I am just as happy as if I had good sense. Larry My wife put in the picture and she doesn't know why the picture went sideways.

I recently bought a Colt 1908 Pocket Hammerless in .380. I've been so pleased with it that I'm giving serious consideration to getting one in .32.
I'll be watching this thread closely.

Great find. Don't know what you paid and don't care. These '03 Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols are one of my all-time favorites. I have an '03 .32 as well as an '08 .380 and consider them my prizes. With the right ammo (standard hardball) I can't make them malfunction, and I've tried. They're accurate enough and natural pointers. I even carry the .380 sometimes as a CCW. Enjoy it.

Nice Colt. I like the '03 .32 Auto. It's a better carry piece than many think.

By the way Tops, when I said I didn't care what you paid for it, I wasn't trying to be snarky. I just think they're worth whatever you paid. I think they're that good.
Back in the early 80's a co-worker who knew I was a shooter asked me to check out a gun he had. He brings in a mint, nib pocket hammerless. Tools, target, manual, the whole deal. Even the box was perfect. I took it home, cleaned it and checked some reference books. I was drooling over that thing.
When I gave it back, he hinted he'd like to sell it and asked about values etc. I was really tempted but something told me it was hot. My co-worker, who was not a friend, just made me think that way based on stuff I knew about him that I won't bore you with. Anyway, I passed on it. But I always wanted one after that and now I have and really enjoy owning both a .32 & a .380. So have fun.

Carried my 380 today. Think I'll carry to church tomorrow. Very good and very easy to carry. Found an on the belt holster for another brand and model that fits the little Colt perfect.

I've got one in 32 acp. I bought it several years ago on one of the
auction sites. I've thought about adding another one a few times but
the selling prices just keep going up. I don't even look at the 380s on
the auction sites, too rich for me. The 1903 is a very well made gun
with well machined steel and close tolerances, probably a bit over
built for the 32 acp cartridge, great gun.

I wish I could afford two (one in .32 ACP and one in .380 ACP) My logic would be to have a barrel maker manufacture (read: forge) a barrel to fit the .380 pistol, chambered for the .32 NAA cartridge.

The power of the 71 grain .32 NAA round would make it a dandy carry piece.

I have 3 of 'em. I laid out some real coin for the .380, but those things are worth the price; even the rough ones.

I have several Colt Model "M" pocket pistols in my collection. I find them very enjoyable to shoot, quite accurate, and very reliable.

This one is about the nicest one I have and there's just something about that original deep Colt blue that is so sharp looking.

This one is a rescue project. When I bought it the finish was about gone and the grips had seen better days. I sent it off to be bead blasted and then parkerized, and then I mounted a new set of walnut grips on it. It's now a regular shooter and one of my wife's favorite range guns.

I have a few also. Just find these old Colts to be so sexy.

This one I had engraved and presented to my father one Father's Day.

I added this 1903 Pocket Hammer in .38acp last week.

I really like 'em. Have a .32 and .380. Thin, slick and a nice piece. Shoot the heck out of that thing...if you can find some of those little bullet things to shoot!

Mine's pakerized, and stamped US Property with a bunch of British proof marks. Lettered as having gone to Britain in WW II. It's like new in the box, with the spare magazine still wrapped in paper, which is unfortunate, as I'd like to shoot it and maybe don't have the care to do it without injuring the gun. I've pu a couple of magazines through it, which should satisfy my curiousity.

I have one of the French made Manhurin walthers in 32apc. Very nice, no problems and shoots to the sights with Federal ball. Micro sight used to make and sell an adjustable rear sight for them. Haven't done any in years. Heard they fetch a premium price when they surface. Frank

Growing up dad had one. He paid $50 in the early 60's used in box with a hardware store sticker for $17.50 on it. You $15 gun in the 60's was a steal! Ivan

Those old Colt's are GREAT! I have a 1903 (.32 acp) and a 1908 (.380 acp) and even a 1908 in (.25acp). They all shoot fantastic, are amazingly accurate and quite reliable. I lucked out and all the ones I own actually came with original two tone magazines as well. Those alone are collectible and worth a few bucks. I did subsequently buy a few additional Colt Factory magazines (used of course as they are no longer produced) for each one as I was not too thrilled about the after market Tripple K's that were available at the time.

When I purchased the .32 - 1903 back about 25 years ago I was down at the Range shooting it and I thought I saw something fly out (from the corner of my eye) as I was shooting it during the first magazine full. I did not have any functioning problems and nothing looked wrong so I kept on shooting. At the end of the shooting session I swept up the floor of the Range to recoup the brass and low & behold I found the extractor! Apparently the roll pin had come loose and the extractor went flying. The gun fired 150 rounds of Factory ammo with NO EXTRACTOR and there were no failures to feed, eject or function! Now if that is not a tribute to their reliability I don't know what is!! I got a new roll pin and reinstalled the extractor and it's been perking along ever since.

Good luck with yours - they are such well built guns that will never be reproduced again.

I'm a big fan of the 1903/1908 - I think they are one of the best feeling pistols ever made and easily concealable. These two were given to me by my father for a couple my birthdays and hopefully I will pass them down to my kids some day. In the meantime, I'll continue to take them to the range to make sure they still work...

"An elegant weapon for a more civilized age." (Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi)

I've always wanted one, and actually knew an OSS agent who carried one (in .32 ACP) while on the job. Used ones appear infrequently here, and usually snapped up before you even have a chance to inquire about them.

Maybe some day...

Regards,

Dave

Default .32 to .380

I purchased a Colt .380 barrel many years ago and it is a drop in for my .32. The .32 magazine even feeds .380's.

I have one in .32 ACP. This "hammerless" pistol is known for going off when dropped.

My Model/Type III is 100 this year. I took it out for a little romp a couple of months ago and it still shoots fine, knife-edge front sight and my vision notwithstanding.

I have a question for the guys that shoot these. I have a nice one in 32 acp and it shoots nice tight groups at 15 yards, but it shoots about 4 inches high. Is this normal or is it my gun?

Mine shoots a bit high too but I usually set my targets closer than 15 yds. when shooting pocket autos. Maybe me, my pistol, or the ammo. I'd say your results are still pretty good IMO.

BigFred. Hold your Colt gang banger styler and see if it shoots four inches to the left.if it does it's the gun..........mine shoots a tad high. That's good for me cause I shoot low to the left anyway normal hold.

You can find an automatic pistol that is a better defense weapon than a Colt pocket hammerless, but you'll never find one with more style.

My first and also last experence with a Colt model 1908 .380acp:
while in the Military a buddy brought his (house gun) into the armory to have detailed cleaned and checked. After cleaning and reassembling it and test fired it was then FULL AUTO ! perhaps it was assembled incorrectly ?

That's correct, all the 4" barrels are .32 and have the separate barrel bushing. The .380 was introduced with the shorter barrel with integrated bushing.

Mine has no finish what so ever, and some light pitting in the bore. All it does is shoot perfectly, quietly and with practically no recoil. In short it's one of the best shooters I've ever had. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Those were built when folks knew what a pocket gun was about. Of course it helped that they had pockets big enough to carry them too.

32 ACP

380 ACP

I have a 380, wanted a 32 but the 380 was a better buy at the time (they had 3 at the shop).

Have other 32 and 380 pistols: A Walther PP, HK4, Bersa, as well as 3 Colt 25s.

Good for "stick in the pocket and go to the store"

As I said earlier, I'll be looking for a1903 in 32 someday soon.
