Yep! Dad gave me his Remington 722 in .257 Roberts when I turned 16 (1969). He bought it new in 1950 with a Weaver K4. Took me first deer and then some with it.

Great caliber. I've owned several "Bobs" in the last 30 years.

I've had an A-Bolt II Hunter short action version for a few years now.

It's my primary whitetail rifle.

I recently picked up a new Model 70 Featherweight chambered in 7x57.

I'm kinda partial to this family of classic cartridges.

Default Isn't the Savage 110 still in production?

I have an old Savage. inexpensive and not very pretty. None of that interferes with it's ability to shoot a lot of things, including deer.

Here abouts THEEEE deer rifle was a Winchester 1894 in 30-30 for many, many years.
Now you see mostly bolts - 7mm Mag and .270 being popular.
I use either a pistol or T/C Contender Carbine in 7-30 Waters.

You don't really need a *long* gun unless you hunt from a stand over fields here.
I like the woods and swamps

Your Kimber is a beauty - I really HATE shiny rifles in the woods - Your Kimber should help keep you invisible.

Bushmaster, that's a fine looking rifle in a fantastic cartridge. My dad bought me a Winchester Model 70 featherweight in .257 Robts. for a graduation present in 1985, I have taken a number of deer with it and done some varmint shooting as well.

Here's wishing you many happy days afield.

My wife "stole" my pre 64 custom model 70 in 270 and bagged quite a few deer with it. I bought her a Kimber 84 in 7mm 08, She then went out and bagged a wall hanger with it. I like the Kimber 84 well enough to buy me one for a stalking rifle in the same caliber.

I have three pre 64's in 270, my Dad's, the one my honey now claims and a Featherweight. All have tagged lots of deer. I grew up using Dad's rifle, took lots of varmints too. Dad had deer season rights.

I found some Weatherby ammo in 270 Win caliber. I bought a case of it. It shoots 200 FPS faster than a regular 270 win, it is like using a 270 WBY. I have bagged lots of deer with this load. Several nice bucks on the farm at 400 yards.

OP, your Kimber looks great and is set up very well. I have a Leopold scope just like that. I took it off my pre 64 Super Grade 375 H&H when I sold it. It is a very clear scope and tough.

Thank you.
For all the good looks, what I like best is the "feel" of the stock and the balance of the whole gun.
If a gun was being custom made for me it would be a lot like my 84M.

First the 7mm (7x57) mauser is the flatest shooting caliber there is. Just punch in the ballistics into a ballistic a calculator using a 125yd zero. The 7mm mauser round will vary about 1/2" to 5/8" the whole 125yds. This is why we copied the 30-06 from the 7mm mauser round. We copied the 308win/7,62NATO round from the 300 savage.

There are a lot of rounds copied from the 7mm mauser round too. The .284 win, the 7mm rem mag, the 7mm/08, the 280rem. Etc.

The 6,5mm 5 mm swede round has been copied too like the 260 rem, the 264win. Mag. Etc.

I'm thinking of hunting deer this year with my 1907 Swede Carl Gustaf M96 6,5mm Mauser. (139gr SP bullet) I prefer Sellier and Bellot ammo.

For the 7mm Chilean mauser it's the 173gr to 175gr SP ammo. These old military rifles have there sweet sweet spot for bullet weights. I would try to stay as close to the original bullet weight as possible.

I hunt with the original American calibers of 308, 30-06, 444, and 338am too.

Took mine to Alaska in 1965: killed two moose and four caribou with it. 30-06 caliber, carbine model with 18 inch barrel, fitted with Weaver K 2.5. Best brush gun going.

For shotgun only areas (have since added Nikon Slughunter 3-9x40 BDC 200 Shotgun Scope on a B-Square mount) Marlin 512 Slugster:

Needs to be sighted in with the new scope. I would like to use Hornady SST slugs in it.

My Current Production Rifle for Open Areas, Winchester Model 70 Ultimate Shadow SS .30-06 with Leupold VX-2 4-12x50 scope:

Haven't hunted with it yet, needs to go to the range for final sighting. Plan to use bullets in the 150gr-165gr weights.

I've got a Winchester Model 70 Classic (pre-64 action - blued finish) BOSS .30-06. With a Simmons 3.5-10x40 scope that hunted Wyoming, and took a nice 8pt.

For brush and swamp in North Michigan and the UP, I've got a Marlin 336CS (.35 Rem) with a Simmons Aetec 44 Mag wide angle 2.8-10x44 scope. Shoot factory 200gr loads.

When I get tired of lugging all the heavy metal around, I take my Thompson Contender, with it's 12" .45-70 Barrel and open sights, in a bandolier sling.

I also have a collection of Winchester Model 70 Classic Stainless BOSS's: .243 Win, .270 Win, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .300 Weatherby Mag, and .338 Win Mag. But that's another post...

Ruger M77 (no MK), .270 win., 1984 vintage. 1 3/4 - 5x Burris scope.

Glassed & free floated, it's a tack driver. I may treat it to a Timney trigger this year.

Killed lots of Tx whitetails wit

I don't think it falls into the correct catagory, but it's my reach out and touch rifle. 98 mauser in 280 Ackley.

Bought my used 257R (Ruger 77) in 1990 in the Adirondacks while on my honeymoon. Great gun, great caliber, and still have the wife.

Same here, in .30-06. Deceptively accurate for such a Plain-Jane rifle.

I still have mine that I bought when I was 19. I am soon to be 51. I have see thru mounts with a small scope. Great brush gun!

Since this this thread is about American rifles, include my newest centerfire rifle. It is the Ruger American in a 30-06. My son has one in a 308 caliber. They are really accurate for a cost of $350. If you have not looked at one, I suggest you take a hard look. Free floated barrel, adjustable trigger, muzzle crowned, 4 round flush magazine, great soft recoil pad and 70 degree bolt. We are both shooting 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets in them. We both took a deer with each one last year. Inexpensive but very accurate rifle.

Classic caliber in a classy gun! Very nice Bushmaster. I'd need more magnification than your choice but the Leupold looks good on that rifle. I have a Remington Classic in the roberts and it works just fine on NY whitetails.

No need for offset. Plenty of eye relief.
Note, as long as there is enough eye relief for 4x the 1x will be fine.

Current Production: Probably a Ruger 1 in one of several different calibers. When I hunt deer, I use my Savage 99, made in 1949.

I do not hunt because it's not for me.
But I admit to seeing the attraction, especially if done with family or friends.

I took the Talley mounts off and replaced with SK mounts with low rings, but they are a bit high compared to the Talleys:
