Default Stevens .410 Shotgun/pistol

Saw this gun referred to in another post and got curious. I note that the gun is considered "unlawful" under the 1968 GCA. Can anyone tell me why this antique is any different than the Judge .410 available today as a revolver in terms of the legality of owning it? Am I missing something here? It seems like this relic should be legal given all the rest of the"OK" guns out there.

Let me try to explain. First off, it wasn't the gun control act of 1968 that made this gun "illegal". It was the National Gun Act of 1934 that put this gun into a different category than other guns. This gun is not illegal to own or shoot. It however must be registered with the BATFE and a small fee paid to make it legal to own. Since this gun was manufactured prior to 1934 and is in its original configuration, and does not meet modern requirements, then it must be declared to the BATFE. As stated above, the Judge revolver has a rifled barrel and this is a smoothbore, two entirely different types of guns according to the government.
