Ruger revolvers are ugly
Or at least, that is what I've heard.
I don't quite believe it, however:
(Super Blackhawk, 44 Magnum)

Not all of them. I think the SBH is a right handsome revolver, especially the older 3 screws.
But the SRH always makes me think of something Soviet era peasants would cobble together after a bad wodka bender...

Aye, the old Security Six series tended to take the constant pounding of full .357/125 while its equivalent K frame was in its third trip back to the factory for a rebuild.
The Redhawk harkened back to the ancient Colt New Service for its beefiness and routinely ate the 300gr. stuff with ease.
Ugly? Maybe. But I'd rather have an ugly gun that shoots all day than a pretty piece that balks.

I must admit that I do not care for the looks of the new lt wt small frame Ruger carry guns but at the same time I do not like the look of the new J ,K ,and L frame S&W's {The Higher frame around the hammer area} I do like the looks of the N-frame models and am glad for the structural enhancements to all frame sizes. . All ,and I stress ALL, I am sure are extremely well made and quite useable. I just am an old fart who doesn't particularly like change. My opinion and a couple of dollars will buy you coffee in most places . All my very best, Joe.

Bearcats and Vaqueros look pretty good. I'll have to agree and say the rest are ugly.
I can say that because I own a couple of them.

Yes, they are ugly. I should probably give these away, but no-one would want them.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My eyes behold these Ruger revolvers and see only beauty. But these are not just safe queens. They are shooters of the first order.
1. SP-101 .357mag
2. and 3. 1973 Blackhawk .357mag

When I first moved to Alaska, I settled in an area known to be saturated with grizzly bears. For protection, I bought my first hand gun, a Ruger Blackhawk in .44 magnum. I bought it in Tok, Alaska in 1973, and after a good bit of practice, was able to draw and fire pretty quickly, and with a moderate degree of accuracy. I loved the way it looked, but it didn't fit my hand. My little finger was under the stocks rather than wrapped around it. I sold it when I moved to the city because the recoil and the noise took all the enjoyment out of shooting. But, all in all, the Ruger is as beautiful as a gun is allowed to be.

Well I agree with you partially.
Super Red Hawks with iron sights are homely.
But with a scope mounted, then they look good to me.
I think it's because they come with mounting points for scope rings and you don't need an ugly scope mount.
Most revolver scope mounts are ugly, IMO.

I like the looks of most Ruger wheelguns. Some are darn-right sexy in a "yeah, I'm good for 50,000 rounds" kinda way!

I bought a mint condition 4" Blue 1973 Security Six at a pawnshop a couple of months ago for $314. I thought it was a really cool gun but I already have a 4" M66 and didn't need two .357s so I was thinking about getting rid of the Smith and Wesson. I have had many, many Smiths and thought I would try a Ruger for a while, which incidentally had a really smooth trigger. I held the two guns side by side, thought about it, ....then put the Ruger for sale on Armslist!

I like all the Ruger revolvers, especially the single actions. But, if I can't afford one, it's just ugly.

Well... I'd have to argue that this Ruger .41 Mag Blackhawk that I fitted a Bisley hammer to, and replaced the alloy grip frame with a polished SS Blackhawk grip frame:
Yep... I made the grips too from figured Claro Walnut
Is much easier on the eyes, than this:

Ruger revolvers have "functional beauty."
I especially like the new GP100 with a 3" barrel, fixed sights, and minimal markings on it (Ruger has finally stopped printing the user's manual on the gun.)

Ruger revolvers have served me well for over 40+ years now. I'd still be with ruger if they still offered the redhawk in 357mag & 41mag. Thanks ruger for pushing me into S&w n frame revolvers s&w wins. Ruger loses. I love my s&w revolvers. Is it ok for me a grown man to say that? Bill
Just watch the Tales of the Gun s&w story. To me it's about being able to own, to touch and shoot a piece of history. No other gun manufacturer has done more for the development for guns than s&w.
Just look at the brass case which is our self contained ammo still used today, the volcanic lever action which became the Henry rifle etc.
Everything we see from the beginning of s&w is into the modern S&W guns of today.

An unmolested five-ish inch 3 screw in .44 Magnum is on my VERY short list of must have. I don't really have a "boomer" yet.

That tales of the Gun episode is great... I bought the DVD. Until I watched it, I had no idea that Henry and what would go on to be come the Winchester lever actions, all owe their lineage to the Volcanic... which even looks like a miniature Henry.
it kind of galls me always hearing about how Colt is "the gun that won the West" when S&W was no slouch either.

Ya they look a little weird. I got an old model SBH with dragoon grips, and think it is fine looking.

I think the little SP is quite handsome.
Also one of the first Super Redhawks with the scope that pretties it up.

They is Rugly.
Dump trucks; but they work.
I am still sore about ol' Bill R selling out Second Amendment supporters, but since he has gone toes up at least the company is now selling high(er) capacity magazines to the public, although they are still expensive and hard to find (I am told).
Just wondering; are there posts on the Ruger site about how beautiful S&W revolvers are? If Rugers are so hot, why do folks have to crow about them here? Why not go over the the brand X site and wallow in the Ruger glory?

Some people say I am ugly, and too heavy. But I still get er done time after time and unlike a Timex I do keep on ticking. Or as some people say, ugly is as ugly does. LOL I like both my Rugers and my Smiths.

I have my favorite Smith's just as I have my favorite Ruger's. Both manufacture completely different revolvers in their lineup, so I don't even compare. Plus I like having options and different flavors in my collection. I bought this Police Service Six last year and it's quickly become one of my favorite daily conceal guns. Shoots well and fits in a few of my K frame holsters.
Also the 2.75" barrel is uniquely different and I've come to appreciate it. I don't think any S&W revolvers were offered with that same barrel length. Weight feels so close to a 3 inch K frame. It really is a beautiful and elegant gun.

Hum... Ruger. Had a couple of the revolvers. Never really warmed to 'em. Saw what my brother could do w/ his S&W M-29 and just decided he was right. Now years later, haven't had a Ruger revolver in I can't remember when. Open the drawer in the office... S&W's! Every one of the outstanding examples of the finest handguns made anywhere in the world. S&W is to revolvers what Glock is to pistols, they set the pace. Everyone else does what they can to try and keep up.

I told myself that I would never buy another Ruger after they started printing the hideous warning billboard all over the barrel. I was true to my word for about 30 years until the Lipsey's Flat Top Bisley .44 Special came out and the warning was moved to the bottom of the barrel alongside the ejector rod housing where it is almost invisible. That gun was built right and the Lipsey's models don't seemed to be plagued with reports of clocked barrels like a lot of Rugers do lately. I think both Skeeter and Elmer would like it.

'Cause we're just showing and enjoying how much class we have over here, being able to show our admiration for non-S&W's, and confess that yes, some of us even covet them.
Whereas on the other sites... we'd be tarred, feathered, flamed and ran out of town.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to hop over to GLOCKTALK and beam about my recent acquisition of a M&P 45

Because of my rugers my s&w' s won't be all alone in the safe because they get along. .I have to keep my colt 22caliber guns seperate so they don't fight or cross breed. You wonder we're those canted barrels come from.

They are as ugly as sin but I've got used to them over the years and one of the few SAs I can afford. It helps too they come in .41 mag.
I do much prefer the look of my S&Ws but do like the ruggedness of the Rugers.
