Default Colt Question-Were Grips Numbered to Guns

I recently bought an early 1950s vintage Official Police in 38 Special.

It has what I think are the correct style wood service grips with silver medallions.

On removing them, I found either "600" or "009"(depending on how read) written on the back of both grips in what looks to be grease pencil.

The serial number of the gun contains neither of these number sequences. I'm wondering if this means that these grips are off another gun, or if the markings I see on the back have another meaning.

Back in January of this year I bid on an early 1950's Colt Cobra
on GB that had the original box. The last three digits of the serial number were written on the back of the grips in either
pencil or grease pen. I didn't win that auction.

I've seen penciled serials on pre-war wood Colt grips and also scratched onto the backs of the gutta percha type, similar to how S&W stocks of the same era were serialed, but I have not seen this on later post-war grips.
