Default Anyone know about the new Sig P320?

Anyone know about the new Sig P320? I saw it on Sig's website and I saw a video about it at shot show, but I can't figure out if it's not released yet or anything. It looks like an awesome gun. I'd love to compare it to the M&P's(which I also love by the way). Thanks

I am sure that this is a great striker fired pistol. My preference is a pistol with a hammer. I love my P220's in .45ACP and .38 Super. They fit my hand better than any striker fired pistol. I do like my M&P 45 and my Glock 21. I would buy a P227 before I would buy the P320. This is based on my personal preferences.

Sig being Sig, they will probably show up in 6 months to a year after they announce them. Looks like their latest attempt at competing in the polymer frame, striker fired pistol market. I like the P220, 226, 229 pistols because nobody makes DA/SA pistols like Sig does. We'll have to see what the new 320 does better than all the rest, when they start showing up.

Just like FNH, they had to go a make a striker also.

I see that, "someyear" SIG plans on making a "subcompact" P320 that's about the size of an M&P Compact. It's not announced, but the size specs are listed in the online P320 manual.

Handled and shot one recently...sweet pistol. Similar to M&P, but a Sig. Nothing special in those regards.... I'd use one.

It basically their p250 with a slide converted from hammer to striker fired, uses p250 mags & grip frames. I loved my 250s & can't wait to hold & shoot the 320!
The only other semi auto frame that feels better in my hands than a Browning Hi Power v is a Sig, especially the 250/320.

The whole modular concept is a great idea. I have the P250 in .45acp, and it is a great gun. No reason to believe the p320 isn't. Ed

I have put several hundred rounds thru a fullsize P320 in 9mm & .40. The LE SIG rep dropped both pistols @ the PD range for T&E. The 9mm is boringly accurate & very mild to shoot. A bit heavier than a Glock 17 so it soaks up recoil real nice.

The .40 is also extremely accurate & easier on the hands than my Glock 23 & 35. I presume due to the very solid steel internal frame & more heft. The polymer frame is also rigid & not as flimsy as many other poly guns. I also shot the .40 P320 better than the Glocks. The trigger is phenomenally better than virtually every other striker gun, except the latest iterations of Styer's S/M/L pistols.

I have basically decided to do the Sig P320 for work & retire my old Glocks. The only thing slowing me down is the lack of light bearing duty holsters & $$$$$.

My agency approved the P250 years ago, but no one carries it any longer. I think the P320 will do well in LE & civillian circles. BTW, the rep said that a TwoSum set & sub compact should be rolling out soon with the .45 version.

Do you have any trigger time on the Walther PPQ and/or H&K VP9? i recently tried out all three, and the P320 was my least favorite. I liked it's very strong and audible reset (which was shorter than the VP9), but the trigger was heavier and less crisp than either in my hands. Overall, I liked the VP9 best overall, thanks to its lower bore axis and extremely comfortable grip, though the PPQ had a marginally lighter trigger.

StickShift,

I've only messed with the VP9 & PPQ in stores. My agency doesn't have any Walther pistols approved since they have too many armorer schools to attend. Quite a few colleges use H&K USP's with the LEM trigger and love them. I like them too & would use one but whew! They are spendy. There is a Sgt pushing for the VP9 to be approved but it's so new & the range staff won't approve a weapon unless they have armorer support from the factory. That's why the Styer's & Walthers aren't on the list. The other issue is duty gear for 'non standard' LE pistols. At least Sig, Glock, H&K, Sprngfld XD's & the 1911 variants have readily available holsters.

You are correct, the P320 had a more revolveresq trigger vs. a click reset like most other striker guns. Being a dyed in the wool wheelgunner, it didn't bother me. I actually like that type of trigger.

I got to see a picture of the newest P320 on Sat at a gun show. It's a subcompact version. Much smaller and the Sig rep said it will be available in 45 cal. Rep said it will be out in November.

I don't know if that is, or isn't, a widespread issue.

^^^ Thanks, yes I saw that.

I probably should have said, does anyone here on the S&W forum have any range reports they would be willing to share...?

I stopped by the range on the way home from my LGS with my new P320 full size 9mm and ran 2 mags through it - WOW. Exceptional trigger, very controllable and accurate (shooting 3-5" steel plates at 15 yards). My P227 45 Tactical and this gun are now for sale so I can get the P320 45 Tactical when it appears.

Not yet! But I am going to a gun show this weekend with intentions of buying a 40 S&W Carry if I can find one at a reasonable price. Haven't bought a new gun in a while and started looking and found the P320 concept very interesting. None of the local gun stores carry them so I haven't put my hands on one yet. Reviews and comments I have read have been largely positive. I like the idea that the frame with the serial number can be used in any of the sizes with the purchase of a kit.

I currently have a P226 and a P229 that are very good guns but I shoot very little because I don't like guns with the DA/SA trigger and hammer that they have.

Interested in what you decide.

I looked at a 9mm "Carry" model P320 at my LGS the other day. I liked how it felt.

Right now, I think I want the Compact, which is only slighty smaller in height then the Carry. The Carry is my 2nd choice. The thing I like about the P320 system is that for around $45 I can buy a new Grip Module and convert between the 2. Don't have a clue on what I will find or if I will find anything tomorrow. I have checked prices on line and know what I can buy one for, I usually can match that price at a Gun Show if I look long enough. Gun shows in the Dallas area can be good or mediocre on what they have. But they have a gun show just about every week so I will keep trying until I can at least hold one.

Will report back tomorrow on what I find.

Ended up buying a 9m P320 Compact. There were not an abundance of P320's at the gun show. There was 1 9mm Sub Compact, 1 40 S&W Compact, 2 9mm Compacts, and 1 9mm Full size. There was not a Carry which I think is a full size frame with the Medium (3.9 in) slide and barrel. The Full Size is exactly that, way to big for what I am wanting. Appears to be bigger then the full size Glocks. The Sub Compact appears to be close to the Glock G26 in size.

After surveying what was available I walked around looking at the other stuff and trying to decide if I wanted the 9 or the 40. Both had night sights but the 9mm was $40 cheaper, and that was the clincher. The dealer that I bought from had the same price on the 2 9's, one had night sights and other didn't. No-brainer to me, I took the one with the night sights. Price was $499.95 + tax which was actually a little cheaper then I expected.

The P320 feels more like a M&P then a Glock. The Compact is very close in size to the Glock G19. The standard grip module is medium which might be too big for small hands, It feels a little bigger then the medium M&P grip. I would like to try a small grip but I don't think it is worth the $40 for me.

Went out and shot 3 mags (45 rounds) and accuracy is very good. Need to take my M&P and Glock 9's out and shoot at the same time to compare how they shoot and recoil.

Take down is very easy, changing grip modules appears to be very easy. Need to a little research before I do any further disassembly.

So far I am very pleased with the P320. Ordered some extra mags today. Now I need to order a carry holster. Never ending circle .

I have had a 320 carry in 9 for several months. I like it a lot and agree that it is very close to the G19 but a bit heavier. Mags are much more expensive- I bought 3 extra. Shoots well and accurate. I plan to keep it as is and have no plans to do the lower or calibers. I like it for what it is.

Thanks for the review.

My LGS here in Tampa is calling it a "Carry" model (3.9" barrel, 15 rounds.)

Where in Tampa did you buy it, if you don't mind my asking?

If you are unaware the 320 shares grip frames and magazines with the 250. If you have a compact 320 you can order a sub compact grip frame and still use the compact slide, or you can take a compact grip trim it down to take the smaller magazine from the sub compact.

Also worth noting that you can use the full size magazines in the smaller grip frames.

Mine is a P250 in .45acp. I carry a subcompact grip frame with the compact slide assy, and full size magazines for reloads. So my carry piece is a mix of all three sizes.

In case anyone missed it, Sig has a special web site devoted to the P320.

SIG SAUER

It lists all the sizes, calibers, and components, including the "coming soon" versions.

That is what I have.

Reading on one of the Sig sights, I think Sig has called the current "Carry" model Compact or vice versa in the past. I know the Sig site shows the Carry as 15 rounds in one place and 17 rounds in another. Very confusing. My grip module has Compact - Medium on the side.

The model is 320C-9-BBS and a date of Jan 24, 2015.

After more research I am even more confused. The following is about the 9mm versions. I have found the "Carry" version listed in both 17 round and 15 round on different sites. As near as i can tell the model number 320CA is 17 round and the 320C is 15 round. The 15 round is also listed as "Compact" on some sites.

The 2015 Sig-Sauer Catalog shows the Carry as 17 round and the Compact as 15 round.

Confused? I am. If you are looking for a P320 be sure and read the full description.

Anyway, I got the P320 version I was looking for regardless of whether it is a Carry or a Compact.

Leave it to sig to make it more confusing than it has to be. One thing I learned about Sig, is to not trust the info on their web site as far as what is available and what is not. I was checking their sight weekly for the p250 .45 sub compact kit to be listed as available with no luck.

I called them on the phone and they shipped one to me the next day, I had my choice between two tone or black.

The web site is horrible, the phone service is exceptional. Ed

Yeah, seriously. I'll keep focusing on the 15 rounds, 3.9" barrel variety.

Have any of ya'll heard anything about an improved or upgraded trigger profile to address the trigger bite some have complained of? Supposedly Sig is working on this, and has actually put it on the Subcompact model.

Am I over simplifying this, or isn't this the same thing Sig tried to do with the "P250 2Sum" package a few years ago?

Granted, the 320 is being offered in 3 sizes rather than 2 sizes, but with the "2Sum" you got both sizes in 1 box.

In looking at that sigevolution site, the specs of the two guns are almost identical - same barrel length, same overall length, same sight radius. The "smaller one" has an overall height that's a whopping 0.2" shorter.

In the 2015 Sig price list here is what they have:

Compact - Short Slide - Short Frame (Reduced Grip)
Carry - Short Slide - Full Size Frame

This is consistent with what is in my P320 Owners Manual and this link SIG SAUER look at the specs for dimensions on the various models.

The Full size frame is 5.5" and the Short Frame is 5.3".

When I registered my gun for the warranty I got a 20% discount offer so I ordered a Caliber X-Change Kit, P320 Full, .40AUTO, BLK and a compact small grip module. So I will have a 9mm Carry if I choose by buying the full size mags.

My Compact has a date of January 24, 2015. And the trigger surface is smooth and I don't see how it could cause a bite. I don't know if it is the same trigger that has caused the problem. There is a trigger variation similar to a Glock that I could see where it might cause a problem, but I don't see how my current trigger could cause any problems.

I bought a full-size 9mm in December. Really like the feel of the gun. I've put about 200 rounds though it so far.

It has the standard Sig higher bore axis, so the rotational impulse from recoil is more produced than with a Glock, but no more so than the XD. Trigger is slightly heavy, but very smooth and has a terrific reset for a striker-fired gun.

The grip angle feels good, but may be too vertical for driving the gun hard in rapid fire. Doubt you'll see it show up in any quantity on the competition circuit, but it is till a terrific range and self-defense gun.

Interestingly, mine kaboomed during my second range session (shooting 9mm Winchester factory ammo). Case head blew out, cracked the frame, and damaged the extractor. Sig decided that it was an ammo issue and refused to cover it under warranty. $156 and two weeks later and the gun is as good as new.

I don't know if that is, or isn't, a widespread issue.

Need more range time, but initially, I noticed the same thing. It is less an issue of friction than something about the trigger shape that causes it to create an impact point on the finger that can get a little irritated. Weird because in dry fire, the shape of the trigger is quite pleasant.

So, you're saying that the 320 sub-compact .45 kit is available by phone through Sig? Is it at that $350 price point?

No, I was talking about my P250 kit. I commented to explain sigs bad web sight, but great phone service. Things are available by phone that don't make it to the web sight. Don't rely on the web site. Call them and ask for what you want, worst case they say not yet.
