Default Tyler T-grip question

I am somewhat familiar with the Tyler T. I had one on a duty model 19 years ago. I know the original maker has passed and I understand his son has picked up the business. I know there have been a lot of complaints on delayed shipping, etc. I really am not interested in any of that.

My question is, what is the difference between the old and the new models? Is one better that the other, and why?

I see some of the older ones demanding big money. Other than they are original and old are they any better in material, fitment, etc?

I have a few of each, and some newer ones from BK and a few marked Pachmayer. The older Tylers are very good from a quality perspective. The newer ones took six months to show up and I was so angry by that time I didn't pay much attention. The BK are pretty darn good (maybe not as nice as the original Tyler) and ship very quickly at a very reasonable price. I got the impression the "new" operators of Tyler are doing it as a part-time gig. They NEVER respond to or even acknowledge inquiries about delivery delays. The nice thing (for them) is that if you tell your buyer UP FRONT that delivery is likely to take more than 30 days (they usually claim 5-6 weeks or their web site) it is very difficult for you to make a successful complaint to the FTC about non-delivery of product. I did once complain to the USPS (postal inspectors) about them. I asserted mail fraud. Strangely my product showed up a few days after I made the complaint. I sent Tyler a copy of my complaint. I am confident the timing was a coincidence.

The big advantage to the older ones found on the secondary market is they are delivered quickly. I have old and new Tyler’s. No real significant difference in them.

Pachmyar, Mershon and S&W also offered versions of the grip adapter. S&W had two styles.

BK is a good product also, and produced by a forum member.

I have old and new. Black, aluminum and bronze. Quality to me is the same but old ones have logo stamped prominently on them. I prefer no logo. I ordered a polished bronze N frame version on 2/24. We’ll see how long it takes. Last one was 4 months IIRC…… you pays your money, then you waits. You either think it’s worth it or you don’t

Here is a comparison thread I started a while back about the various T grips, old, new and 'copies':

"T" grip adapter comparison thread

Hope this helps.

How much of a gap is there between the frame and stocks with grip adapters? If there is a gap, are there differences between any of the available options? I’ve never seen a frontal picture of the stock to frame fitment with a grip adapter installed.

I think I’d like my four digit R 60 better with a change from factory feel. My 34-1 SB feels better to me but I’ve never found the little J’s comfortable with the factory Magna’s but don’t want to go with bigger stocks. To me it seems bigger stocks defeat the idea of the little J Frames.

Even when the old man was running Tyler, supply could be spotty. I think it was basically a one man operation.

Any gap is barely noticeable. The 'wings' of the adapter are only a few thousandths thick, and wood is a bit flexible, so you won't see a gap.

I see no difference between old and new.

I have nothing against copies, they deliver fast, so they should be commended. But a Tyler is a Tyler and it's not plastic.

The secondary market is only higher priced because they have it in hand and can deliver it fast.

Call me fussy, it's OK. I will own a Colt 1911, but not an imitation.

Interesting, in light of the fact Colt could not keep the Army supplied and so many other companies were brought in to meet supply. But, I am not a 1911 fan. Have had about 1/2 dozen and sold most of them.
