Walther..Colt..and S&W?
About a year ago I was at an FFL holding friend's house. He was showing me a couple 'Colt's' 1911/22 pistols he had ordered in for a fellow(a 'Gold Cup' and a plain Gov Model)...anyhow I decided I wanted one.
Saved-up a few bucks and bought the standard Government Model .22 a few days ago. Really a good shooting .22 pistol..and a lot less crude than a Chiappa 1911-22 I also own. The Colt(Walther) 1911-22 is still largely zinc alloy like the Chiappa. However the Colt/Walther is visually quite a bit closer looking to the real-deal 1911.
So Walther has licensed the 'Colt' name and markets these as Colts?...Or Colt has licensed Walther to make 1911 style .22 pistols and markets these themselves??...But then S&W manufactures various Walther models in the US as 'Walthers'!
Almost like Ford producing Chevrolets..while Chevrolet is building Chryslers!

I have a Colt/Walther/Umarex Government Model .22 also. My understanding is that Walther/Umarex is making them under license of Colt for the Colt name and model names, although they are marketed solely by Umarex.

^ this is correct.
I have a Colt/Walther Gold Cup Trophy with over 10,000 rounds through it since buying it new. I can't get over how well it shoots, and how affordable it was. The only issue was trying to find a second magazine... Here's a pic of my 2 Gold Cup Trophy's.

My new 'Colt' or the literature it came with makes no mention of 'Umarex'...the right side of frame says: US importer Walther Arms Fort Smith, AR...Made by Carl Walther Germany.....Lic. TM of New Colt Holding Corp...
I'm pretty sure the pistols I looked at a year ago were marked Umarex instead of Walther.
I will say that the Colt/Walther/Umarex 1911-22 seems like a well built piece of zinc alloy with a lot more steel in it than my Chiappa 1911-22

If it's a Colt "M4" rifle or "1911" pistol and it's chambered in .22LR, it's made by Umarex.
Umarex is the parent company of Walther, and they make airguns and firearms under license for; RWS, Walther, Hämmerli, Beretta, Colt, Smith & Wesson, HK, Ruger®, Browning, Makarov, Tactical Force, Magnum Research, and Combat Zone.
Most companies (listed above) will tell you that they don't have anything to do with those products and to talk with Umarex, if you have questions. I was trying to find a rail mount for a customer's pseudo H&K "MP5" .22lr some time ago, and called HK. The guy told me (in no uncertain terms) that was not made by them and he couldn't help me, other than to send me to NCstar (makers of other airgun-quality junk). He sounded like he was tired of getting calls about them.
I am glad that you guys seem to like them and that they work. That is not the common customer experience that I have encountered.

Ehh?...Oh you just have to learn to embrace 'pot-metal' for what it is. Like plastic..MIM parts..investment-cast..etc. It would appear that zinc alloy has taken it's spot as an 'alternative' gun-making material and ran with it.
Not just for 'Saturday night specials' anymore. Lots of cool guns are part pot-metal now
