My Brothers father in law brought this back from Okinawa after WWII.
Any help with any info or anecdotes would be appreciated.
Brave story behind this guns acquisition during the war.

I believe that is a 9mm Type 26.
There's a pretty good Wikipedia page on them.

Thanks sigp, The Wiki page was quite interesting, I passed along the info to the owners and they were thrilled to learn about the gun.
I am not happy with the way the pictures posted and I am unsure if y'all can read the note that goes with the gun. So I am going to quote below the note for the readers pleasure.
Quote:
Japanese Officers Gun
Dad got on Okinawa island in WWII
(gun shot at Dad)
-Dad was on a 6 man patrol
Japanese officer shot at Dad and missed
Dad shot back and got him-
20 yards away- Dad took gun
Papers inside handel

I guess the value to be around $500, any one care to comment on the value?

Probably worth far more to your family than to anybody else. Pretty neat piece of history, love the note. Ed

As you have probably found out, it's DAO, and a top break. I once cobbled together a few rounds for one using 38 S&W brass. Forget what all I had to do to it, but I had to thin the rims from the front so as not to make the primer pocket too shallow.
