Default Perfect pistol?

A while back I had to scratch the itch on a Glock just to see what all the fuss was about.
The members here were very understanding, (did not realize so many glockophiles were here) and made several recommendations for which I am grateful.
So, I settled on a Glock 19 Gen 4. Bought at a big box for a decent price.
Felt good in the hand, if a little blocky and pointed well.
Tried it out with my standard white box 115gr.
WOO HOO. Shot great, very accurate. Took one of those little round targets and rolled it with every shot. Wow, this is neat. It may just be the perf.. uh oh. Wait a minute. What was that.
Ok. It's is still accurate. Hit number 4 son right between the eyes. The case that is. I got to watching closer and just about every ejected case was going right by his ear. Except for the ones that hit him in the face. Thank goodness I make him wear shooting glasses. I had one hit me on the left shoulder. And was shooting right handed.
Anyway, over to Gtalk and find out this is a common problem with them. Just don't shoot those dinky little 115's. Shoot real men ammo. Ok, tried 147's and everything is fine.
My question is why do I have to be picky with the ammo. My XDM's, Beratta and Smith's work fine with anything I put in them. Why not the Block?
Oh well. The "perfect pistol"? I think not. But still a very good tool.

I own glocks. They eat anything I load them with. Like them. I love my revolvers. No contest.

They do seem to be today's S&W Mod 10.

It's not picky. Glocks eat all ammo and should not be picky.
Late gen 3 and early gen 4 had a different extractor which caused what is now known as BTF Brass To Face. Contact Glock or Apex, they make a proper extractor

My G19 and G22 were both second generation. Never had a problem with where they threw the brass, or anything else. One failure to fire in the 19 was almost certainly bad ammo.

Fiscal necessity made me part with them, and now I'm down to just my first love--Smith revolvers. But the Glocks were fine pistols.

IMO, treat what you hear over at Glocktalk with a grain of salt. The issue with the brass to face is known to exist with early production run 9mm 4th Generation pistols. Glock changed to a dual recoil spring assembly, changed the ejector, and changed extractors in the Gen4. From what I gather, Glock tried to share some components between the 9mm and .40 S&W chambered Glock pistols to drive down production costs and it backfired.

I know because I was an early adopter of the Glock 17 and 19 Gen4. I got brass to the face non stop. One piece of brass lodged between my shooting glasses and my forehead. It took all my control to clear the pistol, put it down, and then make mad swipe at my face. For a while, Glock was releasing a new recoil spring assembly every few months to try and cure the issue. Then they started switching out ejectors and extractors. I sent my early production run Gen4's back to the Glock mothership, and still never got the issue fixed. I dumped the pistols.

Fast forward to 2013 and I get an itch for a Glock again. G17 Gen4 and a G26 Gen4. No brass to the face issues, no matter the projectile weight.

What's the test date printed on the envelope containing the spent case from the factory test fire? Did you by chance get some new older stock? If not, call Glock and tell them what's going on. Get them to foot the shipping for warranty diagnostic and repair. When you call, take notes. Note the details of the call including the contact information of the CS rep you're dealing with. Tell them you're firing off the shelf 115gr ammo. Start a a case so that you can back up a replacement claim if necessary.

I own a very early Model 19 and a very early Model 20. Neither are fussy about what I feed them and both have been very reliable indeed. They now both are equipped with conventionally rifled barrels so I can shoot lead in them and the 20 has had a butt job so I can get my mitts around it easier. I used to carry one or the other quite regularly. They are good, solid, reliable weapons.

My last Gen4 Glock (a G26) had some weak ejection problems, so I went to 124gr ammo for about 250 rounds, and it had NO problems.

It also seemed to "come into it's own" after the first 500(ish) rounds, and cleared up.

Perhaps it was "over sprung", and the Recoil Spring Assembly got broken in?

Glock is not Perfection.....but they are simple workhorses.

I have a 2nd generation G19 and have never experienced this problem.
I did have an early 70s Colt Combat Commander 45 acp that threw
empties back in my face. It didn't stay very long. Any semi-auto may
require a bit of tweaking when new. I was a lot younger back then and
traded guns often. Today I would probably get it fixed.
