You have an M&P15, do you also have a shotgun?
***I know this is pushing the boundaries of the purpose of this forum. Please give me a little leeway here.***
So you have an M&P15 (AR style gun). Do you also have a shotgun in a similar style? Something like a Benelli M4? I'm looking for such a tool and would be curious to hear what you have and how you like it.

This is my home defense shotgun:
This is a stock photo, I don't have the strap on my forearm but otherwise that's my gun - Mossberg 500 8+1 capacity 20" barrel and raptor grip. I like it fine The grip really is nice. I've seen the "tactical" shotguns around with muzzle devices and what not and I think (personal opinion here) that they look gimmicky.

If you look closely at many of the tools, you're going to find potential issues/quibbles. Your needs/opinions will determine if they're minor or major.
For example: I was very impressed with the FN tactical shotgun, with at least one exception. The shape of the carrier makes trapping your finger-especially if gloved- almost a certainty when loading shells. I also quibble about the cantilever sight rail (or the ghastly high alternative) and the aluminum receiver. I guess a hack saw can take care of the rail, avoiding using the thing as a club takes care of the latter.
My current working shotgun is an 11-87 Police, I'm ordering a replacement factory competition carrier (I just found) because the carrier/bolt latch on the regular factory piece is damn near unusable. Yes, you can learn to cope with it, but feeding the magazine requires hitting that (stock) itty bitty button with the shell to release the carrier. I don't really expect to ever have to reload it in real world situations, but I bought mine in about 1990 and they're still making them with this cotton picking problem. [I think the answer is in the first part of my previous sentence.]
I do suggest that unless you cut your teeth shucking a pump gun, you rely upon a good semi-shotgun for serious work. I've seen a slew of (allegedly trained) folks forget to operate the pump under the mild stress of qualifying or running a stress/tactical course. Lord only knows what they'd do under rear stress. A survey on a restricted site failed to produce any instances of anyone actually changing loads during a "situation", so that alleged advantage of the pump gun is pretty well moot.
The Benellis/Berettas inertial action does require a firm gun mount and may fail to operate with light loads. At least I've observed a couple of LE models that gagged on Wallyworld bargin buster loads. YMMV and may have been due to a lack of the firm gun mount.

Sorry, no tactical shotgun here, just an old 870 Wingmaster with an 18.5" cylinder bore barrel. I cut the barrel down and added a fiber optic bead, and have a leather shell carrier on the wood stock.
