Question 32 Colt Police Postive Bullet Question?

Hello all:

I have inherited a Colt Police Positive 32 caliber 6 shot hand eject revolver. It was produced c.1905. It takes, 32 long Colt and 32 short Colt cartidges. I have found a guy who will load the 32 short Colts for me for about $.50 each, which I think is a fair price for this antique.

My question for those of you "in the know," is there anything other 32 caliber cartridge that can be fired safely from this old gun? and without doing damage to the revolver?

I know it is not much of a gun but it is to me. It seems to be the "red-headed stepchild" of the Colt line (and why I have never been able to figure out?)? I would like to shoot it more than I do without breaking the bank (or the gun). If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Thoughts!

Not only is there nothing that can be fired safely, there is nothing else that will fit. 32 S&W is bigger in diameter, and won't go in the hole.

And 25 dollars a box? Yeah, that's a real good price.

If someone you knows has a 32 S&W long it should fit a 32 police positive chamber and the ammo will be safe pressure range, but the accuracy is something you'll have to find out. The factory ammo used different weight and shaped bullets (the Colt being a heaver flat nose bullet) I've had Colt, S&W, H&R, and Iver Johnson 32s and if they had a "long" chamber all the factory and hand loads fit and worked well in them. There is a debate about the next item, so consider what you paid for this "Knowledge." 32 ACP is a semi-rimmed cartridge that has operated in my revolvers. The Operating pressure is higher in ACP than in long BUT, revolvers have a cylinder gap that semi autos don't. I never use ACP in top break revolvers, just solid frame revolvers. These are some things to think about in your spare time. Ivan

If his gun is a 32 Colt NEW POLICE, that is the same as a 32 S&W Long.

He said, however, that it is a 32 Colt. Totally different, and obsolete, cartridge.
