Default Ruger SA Grips

I posted down the street but I dont think theres as much traffic there so I will ask the same question here:

I know there are several different types grip FRAMES but what about the wooden grips themselves? I see black eagles, red eagles and chrome eagles. Can someone give me a rundown on what is original to what guns. My interests lie in BH and SBH, both OM and NM, if that narrows the discussion. It appears to me that most older guns I see described as "original" have the chrome medallion with the black eagle, but I dont know up thru what time frame this is correct. I have a first year (1974) NM BH in .30 carbine that has black medallions with a chrome eagle. I dont believe these to be correct but I cant be sure.

Can someone please school me on these.

All Right lets see if I can remember this stuff

Red Eagle Medallions were on the earliest 22 autos that Ruger made. They came out with a NM single six commemorative that also had red eagles.

Frosted Chrome with Skinny necked Black Eagles medallions came on the early 357's and Single sixes Mid 50's

Shiny Chrome Skinny Necked Black eagles were next on all Old model guns Late 50's - early sixties

The chromed eagles started around 1967 if I remember right and were termed as squashed chickens by the collectors and continued through the early 70's on all old models.

New Model stuff I am clueless as I never collected them.

Thank you sir. I wonder if anyone can dig up a photo example of the frosted, the shiney and the squashed so I can be sure to know what I am looking at. All of mine have, what I would consider, the shiney chrome with skinney neck eagle. My Rugers are 1958 (.44 mag), 1971 (.45 Colt), 1972 (.357 mag)

The other question I have is, did Ruger use all the same wood in their grips or are there different factory woods? What wood did they use and can they be refinished like you can a pair of factory S&W stocks?

Ruger Old Model grips are predominately Walnut but there were some Rosewood. I have a picture somewhere and will post it when I have time to find it.
