I finally traded by brother out of his Colt Diamondback. He's been on a WWII binge and I had a 1911 he wanted so the deal was struck.
Its an "R" serial number from 1978. I had a Diamondback a while ago, but traded it off. I'll hang on to this one.
They are great looking guns that have always been in the shadow of their Magnum brother. I managed to sell my Python right before the prices went crazy, so I may never own another.
I like the hammer-mounted firing pin on the Diamondback, and on this one at least the action is smooth and without the usual Colt stacking. I think the fat 200 grain Super Police loads look right at home with it.
My first memory of a Diamondback is the 1975 effort by The Duke to steal some box office from Dirty Harry. Brannigan goes to London and shows the Brits how cop work is done. I can't find it in any quotes on line, but I vividly recall at one point The Duke showing his little Colt to someone, who says "Oh, a Diamondback" to which Brannigan replies "Yeah, and it bites!" I'll have to buy the movie to see if its in there or a figment of my imagination.
