i need YOUR advice
Firstly I hope you are all having a good night. Secondly I apologize in advance if this was posted in the wrong area. Lastly I might go and buy this gun tomorrow. It a Kel-tec Sub 2000
Im still in my infancy when it comes to knowledge of firearms. I own one smith pistol and caught the bug. Ive had my eye on an e series a 686 but now want to purchase firearms that are most likely to be banned in my beloved state of Massachusetts before buying other pistols im interested in. Im going to save up and purchase a larue ar, at least thats my plan. But in the meantime id like pick up something cool that i could still fire at my range as only firearms chambered in pistol calibers are permitted. Ive watched quite a few tube videos so im aware theres lovers and haters. I guess im worried most about reliability and price point. thinking about asking the guy if we test fire it first with a couple boxes of ammo. Your thoughts? Im looking to get swayed one way or another. Thanks all
edit: 750 is a lot of money right now for me

I've never owned a Keltec but have not heard good things especially about the triggers. For the same money you can get an AR15.

I have fired a Sub2000 at an indoor range. I am not sure, but the one I fired I think used the Glock mags.
The one I used was more stock / factory condition, it worked well and no issues with functionality.
It is a neat feature that it folds up, saving space and fits in a range bag.
I am not sure if all those "extra" upgrades appeal to me, as reflected into the price, but I can say the one I fired worked well for a range session.
It seems that Keltec sub2000's are hard to come by due to limited production runs, so if this really what you want, and you can afford it, get.
IF there are budget limitations, you may also want to consider the Hi-Point 9mm carbine. I know it is a Hi-point brand and those pistols may get bashed, but the rifles function well.
Plus it seems that whatever your state laws are may also affect the price on the Keltec.

If you're not a member of a range now, where are you shooting your pistol?
This is a gun to buy once you already have the guns you really want. It looks neat, but all it will do is make you $750 further from a gun you really want.
If you have $750 to spend, get an M&P 15 Sport. This is a quality rifle that will last a long time and has a full warranty.

Kel-Tec Sub 2K's are awesome.
IF they are stock, take Glock mags, and are alot cheaper than what that guy is selling. Way overpriced even with the "extras" (read: JUNK).
If you can find a stock Sub 2K that accepts Glock 19 mags... it should be WELL under that price and will be all around much better.

Charlton, I understand the the little Keltec carbines function just fine, but I would not suggest a used one at that price loaded up with accessories designed to appeal to Mall-Ninjas. A "muzzle/comp w/teeth." WOW! If legally available to you in Mass., I'd suggest going with a new one with a warranty, etc. for less money...ymmv
BTW, over the last 25 years, I've owned 3 or 4 of the little 9MM Marlin Camp Carbines. They have all been very accurate and reliable little guns, and they don't have the scary "Black Rifle" look that I understand upsets a lot of folks in Mass. Just looks like a .22 with wood stock, etc. Might be one to consider if these are available to you...

We have.....
We have ranges in the National Forests in SC. Trouble is, they are unsupervised. The indoor gun range I go to has a rifle section, but I haven't tried it.

Too much $$$ for that gun. Pass. In a PCC (pistol caliber carbine) the beretta Storm can be had for that kind of cheese. For a few hundred less, a Sterling/Wiselite carbine can be had if you like a more classic military look.
Mine shoots very well.

I have one that takes Glock magazines. It's a reliable little carbine that fits nicely in my "get back home bag." That's why I chose it over a Marlin or Beretta. All the extras are worthless. Find one for $550 at the very most (and that's pushing it).
As was posted, for that kind of money, you can get a decent AR.

Sub 2000s (and SU-16s for that matter as well) are great little pack guns with some clever features. However, once you start adding rails, big scopes, foregrips and other tacticool gear, you lose the compact size when folded and are left with an otherwise average carbine.

Hard to find one in stock which is probably why the price is so high. Normally these sell for under $400 depending on caliber and what mag they are set up for, Glock, Beretta, S&W, SIG. AT $750 I'd walk away and never give it a second thought.

I had a nickel 9mm that took the Glock mags. Nice little gun. Worked just fine with any ammo. A used one should be about $400.00, in real good shape.
I would look for a Beretta Storm carbine in that $750.00 price range. Easier to scope and nicer accessories available.

Have a 2000 that takes Glock mags.
About 500 rounds thru it, flawless, even with cheap ammo.
What can you say, it WORKS.

If you simply must have a pistol caliber carbine in 9mm, then get a Hi Point. If I recall, mag capacity is limited to ten in MA anyway?
Otherwise $750 buys a shooter grade M1 carbine, a new Mini 14, an entry level AR, or the parts to build one.
ARs can mount a 9mm upper btw...
I have owned the KTs in both 9mm and 40, I did not particularly care for them.

I need your advice...
... And it is free.
I had a sub2k for Glock mags and it is the only Keltec I ever owned that worked reliably. I shot it over a thousand rounds without a glitch.
I got rid of it since the ergonomics of the inline stock did not please me. The front sight picture, with the orange plastic post, was next to invisible in low light.
It caught recoil well and was easy to shoot fast - but with an awkward head-tilted position.
They are hard to find nowadays and for the asking price there are probably better options available.

I think $750 will probably buy you an AR chambered in 9mm. You can then add a rifle caliber upper at a later date and have both your 9mm and a .223 or .300 or whatever.

I have a buddy that found one at a good price. I've taken it to the range with him a few times and it functions flawlessly. It's accurate too. I wouldn't mind having one if I could find a good deal.
