Think I paid too much...but you know how it is.
I was there and I wanted it.
Local show, half way down the first aisle, I find a nickel plated Colt Cobra. Everyone knows my weakness for nickel revolvers, and I have never owned a 2" Colt.
Gun is a little rough. Been carried a lot and abused a little, too. Has a spot on bottom where nickel is gone. Also some bad scratches on right side. But it did have the original wooden stocks often missing on used Colts because they get sold separately. Function seems good. Serial puts it as 1970 production. Short grip frame but exposed ejector. Very Joe Friday looking.
Tagged at $350, I offered $300, and we settled at the obvious $325. I think he may have gotten me for the $25 due to the condition, but like I said, there it was and I never owned one before. As someone once said, the time to buy is when you're looking at it.
Here's a ****** cell phone photo.

With Colt prices being what they are today, any functioning DS or Cobra is worth well North of what you gave for that one. Any Cobra with 50% or better finish that locks up tight would be more like $425 plus. A 1970ish Cobra with nice finish would be more like $600 plus.
Nice grab!

To find a gun that you really want in what you call acceptable condition is a steal at $325. Look what the cheaper polymer offerings that do not interest me at all cost.

I've paid too much for some, and gotten some steals on others. It all evens out in the wash.

I'm sure I've paid a bit much for many of my guns too ...... but, I usually get a gun that is exactly what I'm looking for.
For me, the cash difference is a small price to pay for a desired piece!
Of course, now that I'm older I can afford to do this. It hasn't always been that way, LOL.
You'll love the Colt! I bought this last issue Police Positive back in 94/95 brand new. Its one of my favorite revolvers, then again ................ they are all my favorites!

I've had a couple 4" Police Positive Specials, including this one nickel I still own, but never a 2" Detective Special or Cobra. It's so light weight I may actually carry it.

I don't care. It's your money, fritter it away however foolishly you choose too. One day, you'll be destitute because of silly decisions like this, but I don't care.

Getting a decent Colt revolver for that price is uncommon in my area these days. A Detective in nickel with some character at that price is a good buy as far as I'm concerned...I know you will hear from people who will want to tell you they bought the same thing last year for fifty bucks...I really like it and think you got a good buy on a nice old Colt. I would be happy to buy one like that for that price.

Now that I have a small frame alloy 38 Special, I may have to do some more +P testing.

Other than the pencil barrel being too short and the grips being too big, I think you made a hell of a deal.
Shoot it in good health.

Very nice!
They weren't going to budge on that extra $25. They must've known you're famous - world renowned articles and mythical creature.

After some polishing I took a photo with a real camera. Will never win any beauty contests but it looks a little better.

I have a really rough condition Cobra (with plastic grips), that goes on my pack hip belt. I use 158 lead round nose for skunks and snakes when backpacken'. The gun looks worse every time I take it on the trail, but the frame was white when I bought it. I'll never sell it, so one of my kids will end up with a gun they aren't afraid to use. Ivan

I think it looks great and you got one heck of a deal. Just as a point of reference I paid $85 for my blue Cobra in 1968, my first off-duty gun, and I still have it. Not carried much anymore but still goes to the range a few times a year. Don't know what's it's worth now but I won't be selling, ever.

That piece would bring north of $500 around here. I think you got a great deal. It's rare to find a shootable Colt around here for less than 500.

Good deal. Hard to find a workable snubbie for that money now.
I had an Agent with the shroud that I used for a BUG at work. Got it for $125.00 in 1980. Guy owed me money. And, some fool had engraved his SS number on the front of the grip frame. Why he didnt do it UNDER the grip I dont know. Shot just fine. Later traded it for a new M581 to use for work. Would like to have them both back.

DO NOT shoot a steady diet of +P ammo in that Cobra. It has an alloy frame and too much hot ammo will twist the frame.

I sat with a friend of mine at his table at the Dallas Arms Collectors show at Market Hall this last weekend and we could have sold that Colt all day long for $500. Good deal for you, SP.
