Default Mystery Shotgun--Help!

Black powder Damascus barrel; overall length 42 inches; replacement ramrod; purportedly a 28 gauge. I suspect the carving is non-factory but period given the patina. Appreciate your opinions regarding Manufacturer, Age, Worth, etc. Many thanks!

The stock carving "looks" European. Your best bet is to try to read the lettering on the lock.

You might try contacting the NRA museum.

It looks European to me, obviously post 1830s, when percussion caps were invented....

Can we see the marks on the water table and barrel flats?

Looks Belgian.

Hard to know about the stock: your photos of the butt stock show considerably lighter wood than your photo of the lock area of the stock.

Lots of German stocks display similar carving.

Need to see the proof marks to say more.

As it stands, without the info noted above , it's a $250.00 gun if the locks work properly and are sound.

Otherwise it's a decorator item, worth whatever someone would pay for something to hang on a wall. I understand that some restaurant chains pay well for these items to decorate new stores.

P. S. The barrels are not Damascus: they are twist.

Damascus and twist barrels are generically referred to as composite.

Damascus barrels would increase the value.
