Davis Derringer- Help!!!
I'm trying to help out a coworker with his Davis derringer. The lock was missing and asked me for help in finding the parts and putting them in. I ended up buying the parts from Cobra. They sent me the lock, lever, screw, spring and a tiny ball. For the life of me I can't figure out how the spring and ball assemble with the rest of the lock parts. Evidently the safety if the same way, it uses the same spring and ball. I'm not about to pull the safety apart just to see how the various parts come together. I was hoping someone out there has some experience with these derringers and how the various lock parts come together. Thanks.

Are you sure they didn't send you the safety ball and spring with the other parts? Been a while since I worked on one of those little beasts but I don't remember any ball and spring except the safety one. As I recall, the striker plate and hammer had holes for their springs as did the trigger, the selector cam operated off a leaf spring and the main spring had a guide rod. No small springs anywhere except the safety

Davis Derringer Help
If you look at the schematic there are two springs and two bearings. One set evidently goes with the safety and the other set goes with the lock. I talked to a technician at Cobra and he told me I need the spring and bearing as well as the lock, screw and lever. This is assuming that the Davis and Cobra derringers are identical. Doesn't Cobra now have the rights to Davis?

^^^^what he said
One ball/spring goes to the crossbolt safety, the other belongs with the bbl latch/lock.
I had a Davis D-32(ACP) years ago, it went to work with me as I worked graveyards.
Cheap as it was, it always worked and actually would stay on paper out to about 50 ft.

Wow! Somebody besides me believes a derringer can be of value. Nice to meet you.

I think the derringer has it's place, I carried a 22mag that belongs to my dad a couple times while at the beach this summer, when even my shield wasn't easy to conceal. I'm thinking about picking up one in 9mm or 38special, just to have for those rare occasions.

I can't help with the assembly.
Once upon a time , I really wanted to believe that derringers had a niche. A narrower niche than most derringer apoligists thought , but a niche none the less. So I bought a Davis in .22lr - for plinking and woods carry , that might also be a secondary BUG. But didn't work out that way.
While it did go bang , the two bbls pointed in different directions , neither of which had any relationship to where the sights pointed. A two shot group might have been able to be covered with a sheet of typing paper @ 5yds, but I would have had to aim at COM on a silouhette , and then retroactivly place the paper where the bullets landed.
Not enough accuracy/ precision to plink at more than 3 feet. Not enough power for a powder burn distance BUG.
If they could be mfg so as to hit with some semblence of POA , somthing like a small frame Davis/ Cobra in .32acp would be it. Short case for a decent vel from short bbl. More power than a rimfire , but still controlable.
Yes the ADC and Bond Arms are high quality CAS props and range toys. But if somthing is larger and heavier than a Chief Special , only has two shots and vestigal sights , well you know.

True...but there's a huge difference in size/weight of an ADC/Bond vs a .22 or .32 cal Davis/Cobra.
I agree, they aren't on the same level as anything like the LCP or J frames, in fact maybe not even an NAA mini, but for some folks they are inexpensive and something vs nothing.
Some derringers are pretty badly regulated, but the Bond and especially my High Standard can really surprise people.

I love mine! .22lr and a .22magnum barrel, it's my Church pocket gun. They're worth their weight in gold IMO, works everytime and fun to shoot!
