A bit of a celebration with new Colt Slabside this day.
Boys, I traded ole Vonn a nice S&W revolver he had been wanting for a Colt 1991A1 anib. Took it out and shot it 72 times in honor of my birthday today. Worked perfectly and didn't shoot badly either. Get eye surgery in two weeks should help with accuracy, had a couple of flyers at 15 yards.
Hell, I can remember when the Dead Sea was only sick! I do like that little Colt with only the barest of basics.

Congrats! Always a good trade if you're happier with what's in your hand.
My 1991A1 isn't quite ANIB, but it still runs like a champ. It mostly has a .22 kit on it these days.

Yes, I'd say it "didn't shoot badly", too. After decades of avoiding them like the plague, the bare bones Colt 1911 has become one of my all time favorites to shoot.

Just curious...are you having cataract surgery? If so, good for you, and it's a piece of cake. I had both eyes done in 2012, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. It was like going from watching television in 480p to High Definition.

Did both my eyes. Still can't shoot worth a dang. My no frills 1911 left the factory in 1918 and been through the arsenal at least once, probably twice. Enjoy your 1991 and don't sweat the surgery. You'll wonder why you waited so long.

Watchdog,
I had the cataract surgery about 6 years ago. My left eye has a lateral retinal occlusion (tear in artery). I can't read a license plate on a car standing behind it with left eye. Have been getting shots of avastin (3). Surgery of some sort in two weeks. I shoot with both eyes open, always have. Glad dominant eye is ok. Cataract surgery is a real blessing is it not?

Not too shabby.
Mine was among my first pistols, purchased on my 21st.
Still have it, though years of carry and some misfortune have it with a different frame and a few scars.
It currently has a few frills.

Great way to celebrate, Happy Birthday. After 50 we can celebrate without the cake (Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed don't want us to have it anyway). I did the same for my 60th last August (came complete with mandatory "idiot scratches" used 1911's often have). Joe
