Default Need help with value of Colt Series 70 Combat Commander 9mm?

Boys I traded for this some time back. It has satin nickel finish (rare, according to blue book, but how rare $). 9mm is an add on over .45acp too. I know, pics. It is a 95% or better gun. Got a fella been making a run at me for this one and I honestly don't know. Seems like I allow $750 on the trade years back. Any help appreciated. Gun serial #s to 1975. 3 mags no box or papers.

Thanks in advance.

A quick look at Gun Broker shows the following auctions resulting in sales for 9 mm 70 series Colt Commanders the past 3 months:
1. Satin Nickel $900
2. Blue $905
3. Blue $955
4. Blue $1195
5. Blue $1300
6. Blue $1600

I could not find information for stainless finish.

Good luck,
John

Bill,

Nice Colt.
The 9mm will bring a kicker.
As you know, sights are not original nor the stocks.
The statin nickel is listed as "rare" but is not.
If it were mine....$850-900.00

I just paid $975 for a nickel series 80 colt 1911 probably the upper limit but she is really Purdy. The 9mm being more rare may push it well over 1k to a colt collector.

Nobody did the nickel finish like s&w and colt. In the near future like not too far away the nickel guns should soar.

The electoless nickel finish that Colt put on those guns is one of the worst they ever applied....it very easily rusts if not properly taken care of..the finish on this one is excellent.

A friend last year brought one over to my house for me to take to a gunsmith for some work. It had been in his safe inside an all cotton gun case... He was shocked to see rust and "pimples" on it. It had been almost mint when stored.

That said any 70s vintage Commander/Combat Commander brings a premium especially in 9mm or .38 Super. As the above poster indicated, the GunBroker prices for an e-nickel one run right around a grand for an excellent grade shooter. For it to bring collector prices it has to be all original and preferably have the box...

Bob

I have turned down $1200 3 or 4 times for a 99% without box or papers blue Commander 38 Super 70 series. Dad has a few blue 9mm's 70 series Commanders and Government models they were $600 each in the late 80's, everybody thought they would be special, but it didn't turn out that way! Ivan

I've never seen a satin nickel Colt rust, unless the nickel was chipped away exposing the bare steel underneath. I carried one as a LEO in the 70's, in .45 ACP, and never had a rust or corrosion problem. Those old Combat Commanders are good guns.....But,.....personally, I'd stay away from the 9mm, and stick with a .45 ACP.......But, that's just me.......

That is definitely 95% or better. No idiot mark either. No flaking, blemishes; I'd put it out for a $1000. Combat Commander prices are quite high right now that I've noticed.
