Default Lured to My Doom - Ithaca Fans Beware

I told them to lash my keyboard typing fingers to the barrel of my 4E Knick until I had safely traversed the end of the online auction.

But the temptation was too strong and my fingers they broke their bonds asunder.

Alas, I was lured onto the auction rocks by the siren song of a First Year Three Digit 37T:

(By way of comparison, to Ithaca fans, a first year 37T is like a 1935 Registered Magnum with a five inch barrel and the original numbered stocks, only much less expensive).

I always thought that the Ithaca M 37 was a great pump shotgun. A John Browning design that IMHO was perfect. I had an Uncle that had one in 12 ga. and one in 20 ga. They were both Featherweights with vent ribs. I tried to purchase them many times. They were very well matched in figured wood. Oh, did I want that set of shotguns! He had two girls and one went to each of them after his death. Both sold them within a year and neither offered theirs to me. I haven't spoken to either of the girls for years. ........ Big Cholla

A model 37 is a bit of a pain at the trap line if you want to keep the empty hulls off the ground.

But there's a special satisfaction in breaking a bird with a gun made before WWII.

Mine was made in 1942, and has the flaming bomb stamp. It was old when I got it at the age of 12, and I'm still hunting with it. I've got newer shotguns, but that's my favorite design. I recently found a 1969 20-gauge in nice shape, and it wants to take me grouse hunting.
Congratulations on finding the three-digit gun. It's a beauty.

My late brother had a 37 with 26" IC barrel that had belonged to his father-in-law. Since his recent death his daughter has it and his Marlin Golden 39A. She'll never sell either.

That early one is a stunner, and I'm deeply envious.

Sweet ! very nice looking old Ithaca.

For Ithaca fans FWIW ,,, Last month I sent my not that old (1970's vintage) M37 to Ithaca in Upper Sandusky, Ohio to have some work done on it.. They did what I thought was a good job ,, very good turn around time, and at a fairly decent price..

Years ago...1969? I bought a new Ithaca "Deer-Slayer" and it was indeed a deer slayer. Took 8 or 9 with it, most with a single pumpkin-ball slug at distances under 75 yds. Sold it when I moved west, and always regretted it.

Nice find and they did make a nice shotgun. I still have a police Deer Slayer with pistol grip and 9-10 shot mag. Fun to hold back the trigger and pump the whole mag out on pumpkins but hard on your hand.
They were very popular here once with our shotgun only deer zone.

Nice one indeed! I've had several model 37s, but at the present, my Ithaca shotgun lineup only includes doubles.

I found the model 37 to be the perfect pump shotgun for a lefty such as myself.

I shot 5 deer the last 5 years I lived in Illinois with an 12 ga Ithaca Deerslayer.
They were all one shot kills and none of them went over 20' after being hit.
