I'm a weak weak man....
I ended up buying my first rifle last weekend! They had just run out of their stock and were waiting on next batch which came in today and I'll pick up tomorrow!
I went with a Colt 6920MP-B. I'm pretty stoked about getting a now addition to the family. Though I won't shoot until the AR intro class I signed up for at the same place I bought it. Though I'm sure I'll be getting to know it before then, dry firing, probably field stripping...

Mais non, Pierre, mon vieux! You aren't a weak man, you're a gun nut. There is a profound difference. Being a gun nut is not weakness, it's just a relatively mild form of insanity. Benign, you might say.

Congrats!
I don't own a AR (more of a wood and steel guy.) but they are extremely fun to shoot.

You are waiting to take an AR Class before you shoot your gun? That is not weak, that's granite will power. I have a 1983 Colt SP1. I think I rolled down the car window on the way home from buying it and fired a few rounds.
I do love the looks of the 6920. I've wanted one for a while now, great purchase Pierre. My recent AR purchase was a CMMG 300blk to shoot suppressed.

Good timing! There is another thread on our forum indicating that Colt is in serious financial difficulty. http://smith-wessonforum.com/lounge/...aths-door.html
In the near future, this could be difficult to do.

I'll make you feel better about yourself. Somehow, I've accumulated 6 ARs, and I don't even really like them.

Weak... sick... in the end it's the same result a new gun in the house!
I was very tempted to shoot it when I picked it up tonight. However, having 0 experience in rifle handling, I figured it would be good to take an intro class. It's only an hour long - but the guy I'll be with knows his stuff! So I don't doubt he'll cover all the basics well!
gregintenn - I can just imagine how many you'd have if you liked them

There really isn't that much of a learning curve to them. Insert mag, pull back and release bolt, aim, and fire. Two pins hold the upper and lower together. Mag release and bolt release are pretty much where you'd expect them.

Same here. I get "the stare" when my Mini-14 comes out at the 3-gun shoot! Lost in a sea of black plastic...

A mini 14 reminds me of an Apple Iphone from AT&T.
The Iphone is great unless you need to make a phone call.
The mini is great unless you are intending to hit a particular target.

Ouch. While I concur that an (good) AR is probably more accurate than a Mini in the same person's hands, I have also found that the Mini in mine is more accurate than the majority of the ARs in the hands of the others I shoot with.
Maybe it's luck. I usually figure the person swinging it has more to do with the success than the hammer he's swinging.

Nice purchase! When I bought mine the LGS had about 15 different brands and models on display. The one I picked was the COLT LE6920.It just felt better made while holding it.
Definitely can't knock other people's choices.I just know that this was right for me.

Perhaps I have a dud. I did know a man who has since passed away. He had an extremely accurate Mini 14. He was a consummate tinkerer, and I never thought to ask him what all he'd done to it.
I really like everything about my mini, except it's minute of dinner plate one hundred yard accuracy.
I have other rifles that shoot hundred yard groups that average 1.5" groups down to one ragged hole. I have a solid bench and sandbags, and am no stranger to shooting. I can confidently say I don't believe it's me.
