Default Surplus Beretta 92s

As most of you are aware, the market is flooded right now with sub-$300.00 Beretta 92s's from the Italian military police. Mine (from SOG) came in, thought I would post a few pictures:

With my 92FS:

The factory 92FS magazine does work with the 92s. I'm going to try and get to the range tomorrow. My 92s does have the 1st generation locking block, I'm going to keep it in and keep an eye on it, but I really don't expect any problems with standard 9mm and the light use it'll get from me.

A few use marks on the exterior, looks like new on the inside:

I also ordered a Wilson Practical "Black Shark" holster, I am very pleased with it, may order one for my 1911:

You'll likely find your 1911 fits the 92 holster perfectly.

*edit* On second thought, that was a 39 Smith and a 1911 that fit the same holster. I'm not sure about the 92 Beretta.

That sure looks to be in good shape.
As though it was "Never fired".
Trouble is, I can't seem to spot the scratch from where it was "Only dropped once".

Mine came from Classic @$300 and arrived this past Sat. I, too, have a 92FS and the two things I noticed is that the sights on the 92S are tiny. The other thing is that the factory grips on the 92s feel bigger than the 92FS - even with the Hogue wraparounds.

The other thing I noticed is that on my particular 92S, there's a lot of creep in single action.

Years ago, just before the Clinton AWB I bought a number of mags for the 92FS - it was my first hand gun - and I found a few that I didn't flip. A couple of them have the cut out and are compatible with both!

It is a bigger grip. The gripframe on the FS model is scalloped at the upper backstrap, where the web of the hand contacts the gun. If you compare the guns side-by-side, you'll see this.

Those are good screws. Narrow slots generally reflect quality, a more refined piece. All of the earlier Berettas have them.

BTW, if anybody else finds those skinny-screw-head grip screws as insufferable as I do, you can get drop-in replacement screws with larger-than-microscopic slots at Beretta 92 & (Taurus PT92 INFO BELOW) Screws slotted-black 92008 [92008] - $7.95 : Greg Cote, LLC

Did you pay the premium for a like new or hand select. I have just filed my paperwork in NJ for a purchase permit with the intention of picking up a 92 and this is a strong possibility for me provided I don't have to wait the usual 3 months to get approved.

I bought from a specific vendor who had choice examples which were labeled unissued. I paid a slight premium IIRC it was $320 shipped.

Unfortunately he is out of stock.

Wow, that is the nicest one of these I have seen! The 92S's that Palmetto State Armory have been selling must be the dregs of the shipment, since almost all I have seen from PSA look used, some VERY used. Yours is a keeper for sure.

Thanks. The early guns that ship from Palmetto and SOG had some unissued guns in there as well. I have seen them run the gambit from unissued like mine to very used. Honestly mine is basically a new gun. There is a little bit of surface freckling in the slide stop, which I believe happened in storage, otherwise it is new. I was very happy when I opened the box

I bought mine from Dans ammo. Dan is a stand up guy and grades his guns 100% accurately. If it says NIB it is NIB. If it say unissued it is. I pay a little more sometimes because I trust his grading.

Got an email from Classic yesterday.

They say they just got a second (and last?) shipment of 92S guns.

I envy you guys, just being able to order a bunch of pistols. Just like that.

That happening in Sweden is just as likely as the Yeti coming down

I bought a couple of these holsters, thinking they would be just the thing for the 92S.
BLACKHAWK! SERPA CQC Holster - Beretta 92/96 Right 410504BK-R

Ad says the holster is supposed to fit 92/96 Beretta.

Nope.

Gun won't go deep enough into holster to engage the latch.

Anybody got any info on what holster WILL actually fit the 92S?

video of gun falling out of holster.

You need to find a holster that doesn't have a locking mechanism at the trigger guard. Early 92 models, like your 92S, have a round trigger guard whereas later 92 models (and all 96 models) have a larger square guard.

OK, I think I got it sorted.

Sort of.

I used the DREMEL.

...and a few files, and a dental pick, and a screwdriver, and a pocket knife.

Under closer scrutiny I was able to peer through the gap between the button-lever and the holster.
There, I could see the trigger guard was coming noticeably (but not hopelessly) short of engaging the button lever.

I got out the DREMEL with the carbide mill bit and went at it.
It was really close quarters as far as getting access to the area that needed material removed.
Here is where one of those wand-type attachments might have been more nimble for the job.

I was able to cram the dremel into the holster just enough to reach the button and start cutting on it.
Actually, I'm not sure I would call it "cutting," since the plastic just heated up, and melted into a globby burr on the engagement-face of the button. That's where the files and the pocket knife came into the job. Had to use those to carve the globby burr off the engagement face.

After about a half-hour of carefully going at the plastic part with the dremel, and then making fine adjustments with the other tools, the gun finally CLICKED into place. HOOORAY!!!

The pics show a before-and-after of the work on the engagement lever.
The pic with the red arrow is the "before" pic.
The funny-looking part at the bottom is a plastic dingus that is supposed (I guess) to keep some tension against the trigger guard to mitigate any rattling of a gun that may fit a bit loosely in the holster.
I omitted that part on this job, since the gun really fits with a "smoosh-fit" into the holster, and there is absolutely zero chance of it rattling in the holster. I still have to push the gun into the holster with deliberate pressure to get it to lock into the holster. I can't just drop it into the holster as I am able to do with this same model holster and a Glock.

I guess I'm OK with how it turned out.
After all, its a $25 holster (Palmetto "clearance" item).
I can live with that.

I'd still like to get a nice leather pancake holster that FITS RIGHT for the 92S.
If anybody knows of nice leather concealment OWB holsters that they have actually tested, I'd be obliged if you would post.

Had the "beater" 92S to the range again yesterday.

Was there mainly to mess with the sights on some other guns, but did make a point to shoot a magazine of each of these types of ammo though the 92S.

Each ran smoothly.

We'll say another 50 rounds down the pipe.
