Default My corn meal guns

I was in one of my haunts and a guy walks in with these old timers:

The story: They belonged to his grandpa, who was a "close associate" of United Mine Workers boss John L. Lewis way back when. He retired and after he died grandma stuck both guns in a tin of corn meal for a few decades. When she passed away grandson got them and traded them for credit toward a .38 Smith for his wife.

It seemed a shame to split them up. I got them both for a fair price for the FN .25 alone.

They've both seen better days, but they work and I'll shoot them. The H&R is a five shot "Auto Ejecting .38 S&W". The .25 is FN's version of John Browning's great design, marketed in the U.S. as the Colt Vest Pocket.

I have no idea if the John L. Lewis story is true, but the corn meal part is. The .38 was still loaded with 3 old WRA rounds and one Peters round - and both guns still had corn meal in them.

Doesn't look as the corn meal hurt them any. Guns and things with interesting stories are special. Like yours.

The last one of the little Brownings I saw had a price of $525. About 2 years back.

Man, that's nice. I'm glad they went to someone with enough soul to appreciate them.

(You probably know this, but baby that hand spring on the H&R. Numrich has ones you can fit to the gun, but it's a blue-eyed bear to get done.)
