The New Kalashnakov Rifle?
BBC News - AK-47 maker Kalashnikov gives rifles makeover
Anyone shoot it yet? I wonder what the specs are compared with the Ak-47?

you can edit your title by choosing Edit, then Go Advanced. Anybody have more info or photos of the new Kalashnikov?

Look like rifles intended for the commercial market. The railed
receiver must be intended to mimic the flat top ARs.

Mark Krebs' AK conversions look similar.
The mall ninja and closet commando demographic will appreciate this revelation most:

No one has tried it. There is a ban on Russian small arms. There is also the 922 law which would mean that if that rifle was importable it would have to come in looking like a hunting rifle.

They've had railed recievers for quite some time. ZenitCo makes a good one but it's not cheap. There's a few others as well but you almost never see them. Instead most people spend half the money, buy a US made rail that is at least ok and at worst junk

I wouldn't want to buy anything Russian anyway, vodka included.

To expend on that a little. ONLY RUSSIAN AKs have been banned. Plenty still coming in from other countries.

Russkiy Standart is the only vodka I like. If not that, I'd have to stick to gin, or rye whisky, or Irish.

I thought the sks is a great rifle functioning and accuracy. I get 1 1/2" groups from my 16" paratrooper with norinco yellow box ammo. My son shoots the exact same groups.
Every used or refurbb'd ak I looked at was the bottom of the barrel in fit and finish. I gave up even trying to find a decent shooter.
I was on my way to buy a new SA M1A when I passed by a rack filled with the "BRAND NEW" not an importers butchered rework Russian Izmash Saiga Sporter in 308win with a 16" barrel for $307 otd with taxes($289).
In function and cycling I never seen a semi auto so fast and smooth.
But it's lubed with moly. The saiga action felt rough and the trigger was harsh before the moly was applied. Now with a smooth trigger and action we benchrested it at 100 yards using south African surplus ball ammo.
She shoots constantly 1 1/2" groups with surplus ammo. I read of the guys on the saiga forum doing much better with new ammo like Winchester or Remington shooting 1/2"moa. They say the saiga in 223 shoots just as good. These are sportier versions and I purchased them for varmint and deer hunting. The saiga rifles have passed my functioning and accuracy test with no scope.
Now the sks is a fine rifle too, it's a fun rifle to shoot. It's a good rifle but was replaced by the ak because of the quick change larger capacity magazines.
Now the ak47 has a rotating bolt similarity to the m1 garand/m14. The ak is a gas piston operated bolt carrier. I think that Mr kalish copied a few good points from different semi auto rifles and put it all into his design. Let's face it the m1 garland one a key rifle in winning the war for us besides Mr Browning designs too.
My point any brand new Russian AK/AKM rifle is worth having. The only problem is the Russian guns aren't imported anymore. Try to find a saiga now.
The Russian ak47 is flawless in operation in any type of climate and weather. It just doesn't stop functioning. The saiga is a sheet metal stamped welded rifle. The Russians at izmash(ak47 factory) did say they made the saiga the most accurate of the ak/akm rifles. The saiga in our American calibers of 223 & 308 are a tad more accurate over the Russian calibers. They think it's the design of our brass case.
If you watch the AK47 story on the history channel or you tube at the end I believe they show the saiga in action and there new ak rifle were the barrel moves rearward and forward as it cycles. I wonder if this new ak is that gun?

Not likely that any more Russian guns will be allowed into the country so long as the current administration remains in power.

I believe that rot was started by President Bush in 1989. Slick Willie just made it permanent in 1994.

A while back, a used Norinco M-14 clone came into the LGS. I hated to admit it then, as I do now, but it was a nice rifle.
I also have a pair of vintage 56 marked SKSs. Both are excellent and reliable shooters.

As for the AK-12 it addresses most of the gripes about the original design as far as i can see.
As for AKs trying to be ARs and vice versa, it just goes to show that the perfect assault rifle has yet to be invented.

I just picked up a norinco m14 clone. The have the 5100 forged receiver, chromed lined bore and chamber. I installed the national match open rod spring guide and the wolf heavy duty op rod spring. I repaired the loose op rod guide block. The headspace is perfect. I paid only $375 for it. I haven't benchrested it yet. I've heard there accurate too. I did refinish the ugly plastic stock in black matte. I have a new wood stock for it.

Don't think these rifles aren't good shooters. That first Chinese $59 sks impressed me. The norinco 1911 was the first 1911 to function for me without jamming. After having three previously 1911 that jammed. The norc was my last 1911 if it jammed. It didn't. The norc 1911 showed me what the 1911 hype was all about.

Frigging Barky ruined my chance to own a Izhmash Vityaz!

My son has a Norinco military training rifle, .22LR, that I gave him nearly thirty years ago. Mauser-clone action, looks a lot like a K98 as I recall, but with lighter wood. Sweet tack-driver. I paid eighty bucks for it, and felt it was well spent.

Vodka: Stoli comes from Latvia. Russian Standard comes from Russia and is very good. Shakespeare Vodka comes from Poland and is much better.
Kalashnikov: I would love to get my hands on a Bizon submachinegun. It was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov's son. It comes in 9mm Luger, 9mm Makarov, and a silenced version in 9mm Makarov. I would pay for one out of my own pocket if my department can import one for "law enforcement evaluation".
