A slight "Stray" from my S&W Collecting......Shhhhhh!!!!......Don't tell the wife!!!!
Picked up some cool stuff this past week.
First, found this cherry Remington Model 95 .41 RF Double Derringer at my local Cabelas then found this custom made holster rig for it on eBay. This was made by R.H. Beck of Gilbert, AZ some 20+ years ago.
If/when I finally get into cowboy action, this may come in handy!
Cheers,
Tom

Cool rig. The Derringer looks to be in nice shape.

Thanks....Yes, the M95 is in very good shape, no pitting, no broken hinge (common on these) and the barrel bores are shiny and new, free from any corrosion. Not easy to find in this condition as most .41 RF ammo was corrosive and barrels usually suffered from that.

Where do you find ammo for one of them? I can't imagine much has been produced since the 1930s. Can it be reloaded?

Now you just need to track down a card game on a riverboat.

The ammunition for this is .41 Short Rim Fire and cannot be reloaded.
Yes there is shootable ammo available for it. The most recent was made by Navy Arms back in 2000 or so, but it's expensive if you can find it.
I have seen it sell for $100-$150 per box of 50.
Of course you can find period correct ammo out there, but that would not be what I would shoot in this gun.
I will most likely NOT shoot it. These guns have a very light duty hinge that is prone to breakage. Since this gun has a perfect condition hinge, I will just enjoy it as a collectible piece.
There are plenty of "shootable" current production Derringers out there if I want to do so.
Cheers,
Tom

I have had friends with 41 Short RF Remingtons, when fired with period ammo, it wouldn't penetrate the depth of the bullet into pine! When I shoot Cowboy action, I carry a derringer in a suspender rig for decoration. Derringers are only shot in some limited side matches. The rules say that they (every gun on you) have to be inspected every time you are at the unloading table (different clubs enforce this differently). As a S.D. gun they are slow, clumsy, and of limited firepower! but still better than nothing...MAYBE. I own 7 of different models, but never CCW with one, except when in costume then I go ahead and load it when not on a "Cold" range. Yours is a beauty though! Enjoy it. Ivan

Ivan, thanks for the info!
You mention you own 7 of the Remingtons of different models......do you shoot them? How many of them have cracked hinges? Do you shoot the ones that have cracked hinges? Feel free to post some photos.
Tom

I like that. I can't quite read the maker's mark on the holster. I see the "AZ" but can't read the maker's name or name of the city. What does it say, please? Is it "Beck"?

That's a great find and a handsome period piece. For shooting, get a new Bond Arms.
