Default Star BM

I acquired this in an on-line auction last weekend. Had no intention to buy it, but when I saw the top bid was $120, I got it for $130. It came with a sort of lime green colored box. It is well worn, and missing bluing, but is functionally nice. Bore is a bit frosty, but OK. I'm afraid I'm going to spend as much on an additional magazine and replacement grips as I did on the pistol. Eager to shoot it.

These are always good buys IMHO. I fancy somebody right handed used that as their everyday CCW. The finish loss on the left of the gun is the clue for me. Won't affect function, and these are said to run very well. I have one coming with better finish and two mags, which likely why it cost me $220. Still cheap for a functioning 9mm built like a brick outhouse.

Nice gun at a nice price. Finish wear does not mean a worn out gun. I own several Star pistols, and they are shooters. I look at the machining and fit of my $150 surplus Star Super B in 9mm Largo, and believe a modern gun would be hard pressed to match it at under 1K.

Some Spanish pistols had spotty reputations for quality, but Star was not usually one of them.

I have to say I am tempted by the Star Super B J&G is selling. I have one other star pistol and it's built like a tank.

I think this one is just bad enough (and cheap enough) that this will be one I try a refinish job myself.

An excellent candidate for one of the home spray and bake finishes. Just wondering, what are the Super B's going for now? Are they 9mm Luger or Largo? Mine was about $150 in Largo, back in the late 80's.

Grip source, if he is still in business.

”Your Source for 4S Brand, Astra, feg, kareen, Star, Llama and Colt Pistol Grips, Hogue Grips, MecGar Magazines, Hunter Holsters and Military Collectibles: holsters, slings, bayonets, chargers“

Mags can be a problem as most of us hoard them.

I just got a hand select Super B in 9x19 from J&G for $240. Either it has been factory refinished or never used. I'll post pics later.
