Looking good, I just bought a Rem 700 also and it is a BDL walnut stock 30/06 and I snagged it from Walmart which hey had marked down on Black Monday for $377. It appears to be extremely well made and has a near perfect trigger pull, all I need is a good scope.

Bought my first when Stationed at Minot AFB in north Dakota in the early 1970's 700 BDL in 7mm mag and cost $168.00 new. Dependable Very accurate took a few antelope, elk, mule dear and white Tails over the years....

Bought a Rem 700 .308 about four years ago. 20in barrel and threaded for a can. Sub moa shooter out of the box. Kinda robbed me of the fun of buying a new stock and trigger to improve accuracy.

Just in time for it to be recalled for the trigger. You will see notices many places in the near future of how to have the trigger replaced. If you want a decent trigger pull, replace the bolt cap with one without the lock. They are available at Brownells.

Largely for this reason, I just bought a Remington model 783 - the new "cheap" version of the Model 700, 788, etc. Dick's has them on sale until this Saturday at a price I couldn't resist: $279.98 + a $40.00 rebate from Remington. I just mounted the scope to it last night, and haven't had a chance to take it to the range. So far, I'm pretty impressed with what you get for the price (excellent adjustable trigger, good balance, good recoil pad, etc.), but the proof is in the pudding (it's supposed to be a MOA rifle). I'll try to provide a range report later.

I have owned my basic ADL 270 in synthetic with a "cheap" Redhead Bass Pro scope for several years now. Awesome shooter, scary accurate and never any troubles. Sub MOA groups with my handloads of 130gr Hornady SST's pushed by 52.7gr IMR 4350.

Yeah, they had it miss marked. They went to ring up the price and it was about double what was on the tag and I said I don't want it if you can't sell it to me at the price it was tagged. They had an assistant manager there to wrap up the box and seal it with packing tape and sign off on the paper work, and after all that work he didn't want to deal with the return so said "O.K. we'll honor that price".

I have a 700 ADL in .223 that I bought when they were discontinuing the ADL. Lovely gun. I think I purchased it just around 40 years after I bought my first Remington rifle and nothing, EVER, has surpassed my Model 788 in .308.

I purchased a new 700 ADL in .308 back in the early"80's.( I believe it was "83 ) still my favorite deer gun.A little over $200.00. 32 years ago.
ISCS, they were still making the ADL in 1990 and a few years after that according to a book I have here. Selling for $295.00 at that time.

As they were ringing me up at Walmart the assistant manager was wrapping the box with heavy duty shipping tape and he was counting the number of wraps. It must be store policy to wrap the box with three rows of 10 layers of tape. I guess they didn't want me to easily open the box in the store and start shooting the rifle, I bet he put over 50 feet of shipping tape on that box!

Here at home,E.Ky., they carry it to the door. probably same reason.

They don't even sell firearms at Wal-marts here in my area of NY any more... And I live in northern NY.. Not sure if it's statewide or just the stores in my area.

I was not as lucky as Farmer17, but the rifle did not cost much more than the Zeiss scope. Both were "on sale" at a decent discount. If it works for the wife it should work for me a few times!

Congratulations on a good deal and a nice rifle. I bought my first Model 700 in 1979 and have added three more in different configurations and calibers. There might be better bolt action rifles made but the 700 has always done what I needed in a rifle and have accounted for plenty of deer too.
I have decided to replace the triggers in mine instead of sending them to Remington. One already has an aftermarket trigger so three to go.

I have a few years old SPS varmint in 22-250. Has the x mark trigger. No plans to fix something that isn't broken. Read somewhere the probable cause of malfunctions is 'adjusticating' the trigger below the minimum specified by the factory.
I had a Ruger 77 adjusted to a below minimum trigger pull and guess what, eventually switching the safety actuated the firing mechanism. Good thing I discovered that during dry fire practice, muzzle pointed down range. We undid the trigger job.
