Default Ruger Security Six Questions

I have 2 151+ security sixs and picked up a couple pairs of ruger targets grips. For some reason they don't interchange. One set has a cut out in the bottom if the grips so you can read the SN number. The other set doesnt. Are there differences in the grips among the post 151 frames? What is the point of the thin pin that is inlet on one side of the stock? Did any of the six guns come with targets? Did all 6" come with a red ramp front site and all 4" cone with a broughram style front site?

I have an old style SS (bought new in 72) so I will venture A guess.

Do not remember seeing any coming with targets.

Without seeing the grips I would guess that that pin is for disassembly. Cock the hammer install pin in hole release hammer. That takes the tension off the part.

I would think ALL newer grips would interchange.

The pin in the stock is used to hold the hammer spring on the hammer strut when your strip the weapon.Unload weapon, Pull grips, cock hammer. Place pin in the hole at the bottom of hammer strut. pull trigger. the hammer spring and strut will be loose and easily removed from the frame then.

My 442 J frame and the Taurus 85's use the same system.

They changed the grip a bit with the 152 series and they will not fit the 151 series.

For clarification, are there basically 3 different grip frame configurations?
150 and earlier
151
152 and later

Sounds like those 151 series targets are RARE. I better raise the price!!

I'll mail them in the morning and PM the tracking #.
Happy Holidays
