Pricey but after you reverse the button they improve the Mk I function dramatically. The original mags had an open top design where the MKII are closed. Joe

My standard mk 11 is always fun to take out. Never had a problem, probably take it down every 5-600 rounds for a good clean up. Definetely my most used .22 by far.

I had a bull barrel Mk II and really liked it. Very accurate. Didn't like Stingers. Tried it and got off 3 round bursts, twice!!! Third case split and second bulged. Don't try using Stingers in them, it's dangerous. Worked fine in my Single Six though.

Good point. The manuals tell you to avoid stingers and also .22 shot in the mk3.

My MKII Target 512 is also one of the 50th Anniversary models. Picked this one up new to replace a MKI Target that was stolen in a burglary.
Always a problem with stove-pipes & failure to eject. I set it in the safe & pretty much forgot about it.
Couple of years ago I got involved in a rimfire forum called Rimfire Central - I wound up replacing a couple of internal parts with Volquartsen parts. One of which was VQ's Exact Edge Extractor. Amazing performance after that. I replaced the stock Ruger grips with a set of Ruger thumb-rest grips. Now she shoots like a sewing machine.
Then the Wife saw her - with the new functionality, grips, & appropriate leather holster, that's all it took. She's killer (both gun & Wife) on the reactive range and very hard to keep up with.
All's good - I replaced the Ruger with a Colt Huntsman, so we both made out.

Ruger Mk II re-assembly
We have a blued (hers) and a stainless (his) 5-1/2" bull barrel .
When the pistol is together except for the "snap latch pin thingy" :
1] point gun muzzle down, squeeze the trigger, and get the hammer to fall forward into the bolt.
2] keep the muzzle pointing down and install the "snap latch pin thingy" by getting the hammer strut to fit into the its little pocket. Close the lever into the grip frame.
The whole key to success is squeeze the trigger and get the hammer to fall forward. Final assemble is 20 seconds after that. If the hammer isn't forward, the gun CAN'T be assembled.

I've owned or shot most other 22lr semi autos, but none are as comfortable, accurate or reliable as the Mark II I bought a few years ago for $200 OTD. Immaculate finish, tapered 5.5"barrel, partridge sight, 4 factory mags...it's one of the family's favorites. We put a couple hundred rounds thru it today!

I have two of the stainless bull barrel models, but this one is my favorite to shoot.

I loved my MkIII

Totally reliable with any ammo I can think of. Accurate to within a few inches at 50', even better if I can hold it steady!
I prefer the MkII over the later MkIII because it doesn't have the loaded chamber indicator, lock, etc. I think that makes it feed more reliably.
Any other MkII fans out there?

I really like my MkII except for one thing, that cheap, poorly shaped
*** they call a trigger. It's too short and sharp on the bottom where
my finger wants to slide to. Is there a decent replacement available?

I HAD A RUGER MK II GOVERNMENT TARGET MODEL, STUFFED WITH VOLQUARTSEN PARTS, AND AN AIMPOINT ON A B-SQUARE MOUNT. I OWNED IT FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 YEARS. IT ALLOWED ME TO MAINTAIN AN AVERAGE IN THE 290s IN SMALLBORE BULLSEYE COMPETITION FOR MANY YEARS. IT WAS COMPETITIVE WITH ANY GUN ON THE LINE, REGARDLESS OF BRAND OR PRICE. A MAJESTIC ARMS SPEED STRIP KIT MADE TAKEDOWN A BREEZE. IMHO, IT IS THE VERY BEST .22LR SEMI AUTO YOU CAN BUY---MUCH MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK THAN THE S&W MODEL 41

My first handgun was a MKI bull barrel in 1975. Later my buddy gave me his Red Eagle he'd never taken down for cleaning. It was extremely dirty inside but that old gun still functioned.
A few years ago I bought a MKII that had a horrible trigger. I was replacing it with a Clerk trigger when I discovered a small spring installed upside down either at the factory or the prior owner. Now it too is a great shooter with a Millet red dot on it.
The MKI being my first handgun I shot it a lot and learned how to take it apart and back together again using the manual. It's seared into my memory still and although a pain I can do it well.

The Ruger MK II is my favorite .22 ever! Completely reliable and accurate. I have a Government model that you can't miss with!

Here's my Government Competition Target MkII with slab side barrel.
I borrowed the stocks from my wife's MkIII target model just to see what they looked like. Also, this was my first polish/buff job on a handgun. It was a fun project as I had to strip it completely and put it all back together. I love this pistol...

Ruger MK II...... simply the best .22 LR pistol for the money.
*** 1985-Purchased new
*** 2010-Sold to buddy
*** 2014-Purchased back from same buddy
Why did I sell it, you ask?
I have my Dad's Colt Woodsman.....thought one .22 pistol was enough......WRONG!!!

Love mine! My buddies chipped in and bought one for my wife and I as a wedding present 26 years ago. We introduced our twin daughters to shooting handguns when they turned 12. The Old Ruger Mk2 was the pistol we chose to teach them safe handling, sighting etc. They were hitting bulls by the end of their first magazines.

I had mine out yesterday at the BE range (25yrds), it shoots fine with a mix of blazer and rem (golden) ammo.
