Henry AR7
I finally picked one up. I understand that since Henry took over the reliability issues have been better.
It's a unique gun and pretty inexpensive so I thought, what the heck? With a 4x scope I would think it will be accurate enough.
Does anyone else have one and how do you like it?

I owned one as a kid back in the mid-1970s. It was fun to camp with, and hunt squirrels. I picked up the new Henry version about a year ago, and it's just as enjoyable as I remember. I don't think a scope is going to help much due to its short barrel size, but it's a nifty little kit rifle and a viable alternative to a Ruger 10-22 take down model.

It probably doesn't compete with the Ruger as far as accuracy, but beats it as far as packability.

The other thing to remember is that the AR-7 packs into its stock, thus a scope would need to be mounted and remounted every time the rifle was broken down and stowed.

I wanted one for years but was scared due to the bad rep until I met a new co-worker who had two and said they were great. Right after Christmas that year my son started asking for a BB gun, my guess is other kids at school got one. So we told him if he did good in school we would buy one at spring break. Well we bought his and I bought me an AR7. I had some cheap old Remmington Thunderbotls, some CCI and some winchester 22lr. I pulled the AR7 brand new out of the box and shot 200 rounds before one single issue. My old Marlin 60 would have issues every 30 rounds. We kept shooting the Henry and finally it started jamming for my wife so I had to clean it, first time in three days of shooting.
Yes its not a 10/22 but its not intended to be. It works perfect for its intent. I leave it in an old Alice pack with some other camping gear and toss it in the back of the truck when we go to the farm. Its been driven back and forth 250miles each way sitting in the backpack every other month for the 3 years now. Pull it out and shoot a little then stick it back in until next time.
Saw the scope post appeared while I was typing, it also uses a smaller than standard scope rail, IIRC someone said its airsoft type. We just shoot without a scope.

I have one of the Henry survival rifles... that is, I have the one they replaced the first one with, after I sent it back 3 times for constant jamming. With its favorite ammunition it is reliable, but not all that accurate. I think putting a scope on it would be a waste of time unless you just can't see iron sights. The barrel to receiver attachment is not all that precise or repeatable.
It is fun for plinking cans or its intended use of small game at close range, but my 6" model 617 .22 is more accurate.

I had one a long time ago. It was a neat gun. I recall not liking that there was no place to hold it in the front (no...fore stock?). Anyhoo, I sold it long ago. But it was fun while it lasted.

I enjoy taking mine out to the range periodically. It's a fun little packable rifle. I wouldn't bother with a scope.

I think part of the attraction to that neat little rifle has to be its use in From Russia With Love.
