Please Post Your .38 Supers!
My second Dan Wesson 1911, but my very first .38 Super.
I'd like to see your Supers, and what loads and holsters you use??
Here it is with some other grips and a new Sheffield folder.

I like them, I've got three. I Rock Island Government Model, blue. A Kimber stainless 4" and a Kimber Ultra Aegis II alloy frame super compact. The last one is my normal carry gun.

Nice! I had a fixed-sight Super Match some years ago. The action was very slick, but it shot really badly. Later, Jim Carmichel discovered that the headspacing on the case rim was the problem. New Colt barrels and SIG barrels headspace conventionally, on the case mouth. I gather that accuracy is much better that way.
I sold my Super before I learned that.
But I wanted a shooter and it wouldn't be right to alter a collectors piece like that.
Now that we have Plus P 9mm ammo and the .357 SIG, I don't see much need for the Super, as factory loaded.
A HS chum's dad had a prewar .38 Super. Bought it because he hunted and hiked in bear country and wanted the deep penetration of the FMJ bullet. It may have actually been loaded to the stated 1300 FPS then.

My idea of a 38 Super is a little different. Hunted a long time for this one...

Very cool. You don't see too many Super P220s in the wild.

Colt worked out their headspacing issues over 25 years ago and the after market barrel companies were offering solutions close to 20 years before that.

This is mine.
Taurus does't make them anymore.
Having a 9mm barrel fitted.
.38 Super brass is not cheap and can't be loosing 15-20% every time I shoot it....

I own four:
The first is a daily carry gun. The second two are dressed up in spalted maple stocks. The fourth is my "Jefe". It now wears a set of Eagle stocks in black buffalo horn.
All are great shooters.

This one is nothing fancy-it was $450 new. It's not only my only 38 Super, but also the only semi auto handgun I own.
Despite this, it has so far been 100% reliable with both factory ammo(including Silvertips) and my reloads in Starline rimless "comp" cases and shoots where I point it. I can't give it any higher praise than that.
For anyone wanting to scratch the 38 Super itch without spending a small fortune on one, I can't recommend this highly enough.
By the way, I spent $40 on a Wilson Combat magazine for it-primarily because I wanted a second magazine and that was the only thing I could find. I see no difference in reliability and function between it and the stamped metal magazine that came with the gun.

I think it was in the early 1970's that I read Carmichel's article, so that sounds about right. I should probably have stated the time frame better.

Here's mine, A pre-war, SN 8920, from the second year of production. The workmanship on this pistol is incredble. A friend has a Series 80; can't hold a candle to this one in workmanship, but his has the barrel that chambers cases on the mouth; mine can't hold a candle to his in accuracy.

Nice Pre-War Super .38s there.
The last one I seen for sale was $3,300
My next Super will probably be a Colt 1991 Government Model.
