Default Mini 14 on streets of Paris

I noticed two gendarmes carrying iron sighted Ruger Mini 14s in Paris.
Interesting.

Maybe the French are interested in keeping "military" weapons away from everyday use by the cops? In any case, I'd be glad to have one if I happened to be a patrol officer anywhere in France right now.

I wouldn't be too worried if that is all I had. Maybe not MOA accuracy that some of the AR's exhibit but certainly a capable arm. Minute of terrorist is all that is needed.

Mines staying with me.

Oh, I agree. I just thought they had those space gun looking bull pups.
It was good to see wood and steel.
I've since noticed many more with them. They're wearing a CRS badge, whatever branch of LE that is.

I know that in times past Ruger supplied DA revolvers to the French Police. They may have purchased AC556's (select fire Mini-14) also. The Ohio Highway Patrol use the AC 556 for a number of years as their cruiser long gun. I never heard about accuracy problems with them like with my 5 Mini-14 (I had one that would hold a 5" group at 50 yards). They Saudis bought around 400,000 AC556's for their national defense forces also (I think the stainless version), my own experience is they hold up very well in a sand and grit environment. In light of the other day, If all my armory had in it was Ruger 10-22's, every one of the would issued! Ivan

I have a scoped 581 series SS Mini Rancher and will gladly go head to head at the range with any AR I've ever seen or shot. Nothing at all wrong with the accuracy of the newer Mini's. Older ones with the pencil barrel? Yes. Newer ones with the tapered barrel? Not at all.

I've had several Mini's including a 581. My Rock River AR with a 20" Predator barrel (total about $1000) routinely shoots 1/2 minute of angle. Of all the Mini's the 581 did the best for accuracy and was not even close. It was about an $800 gun. I think I'll just pop the extra $200.

Not to belabor the point, but, day before yesterday, 200 yards, first string, first two rounds low and right, scope adjustment, then the rest. I believe that is at least "Moment Of terrorist" accuracy.

As long as it was going to be .22 caliber, I would rather have a 10-22!

The CRS is a riot-control force and serves as a general reserve to the French National Police.

The National Police is distinct from the Gendarmerie, which is a branch of the French military that has police duties within France.

Thanks Rusty, it looks like it was the Mousqedon AMD, AC556 by Ruger.
Semi, 3rd burst and full auto with full stock.
They had very short mags ( 15-20rd ) for a full auto.

Nothing wrong with the mini-14. Those who complain about stringed shots are the ones treating it like a fully automatic. I have an older one made in 1976 and I never had any problems with accuracy. The only thing I'm not a fan of is how the magazine attaches to the rifle other than that I would put it up against an AR.
