Default I See a Pattern/ Update: Even More Rugers

I got to thinking today. Always interesting, and sometimes dangerous. I decided that I need to get a new .22 rifle for plinking. I'm going to get one of the Ruger 10-22s with the integral laser. Lasermax brand, maybe? I will have the manager of the pawn shop where I work order it for me Monday.

Anyhow, here's the pattern: the last four brand new guns I bought have been Rugers. A Flattop .45 Blackhawk Convertible, a Birdshead .45ACP Vaquero, a Birdshead Shopkeeper .22, and a .22/.45 Semi-Auto Pistol. The 10-22 will be number five.

Another interesting tidbit is that I have never owned a semi-auto .22 rifle. I'm not even sure that I have ever fired one. I started with the family single shot, of course. I really, really wanted a Nylon 66 when they came out, but circumstances dictated that my first .22 repeater was a Marlin 39A. I still have, and it is one of my most prized possessions. Never regretted not getting the Nylon 66 I coveted so badly.

I've got a bunch of .22lr hoarded and a bunch of plinking to get done. I have several young/new shooters who I believe will enjoy the novelty of the laser. I know I will enjoy it.

See today's post for update.

Redlevel, you won't regret getting the 10/22. It's a heckuva little rifle. I've got a couple of 'em. Mine don't have an integral laser, but no matter. They're still a "kick in the pants" to shoot.

Another nice thing about them...they're kinda like the "Mr. Potatohead" of .22 rifles. There are so many after-market gizmos that you can get for this gun, it'll make your head swim.

On the one pictured below, I installed a Volquartsen trigger. Yeah, I know, I know...the trigger assembly costs more than the gun, but that's the fun thing about the 10/22. You can really trick this thing out to where you've put ten times more into the rifle than what you initially paid for it.

Good luck with it, Red, and enjoy the heck out of it.

The 10/22 is a classic, and the newer takedown models are modern classics-in-the-making.

They are (usually) well-built for the money, and fun to plink, varmint, or hunt with.

I have had my 10-22 Deluxe since the Spring of 1974. I gave a unmarked 22 thought to be a Winchester SS from Australia and $50 for the gun, 4 mags, and a brick of Wildcat 22. With reasonable you'll never wear it out. Ivan

Well, my Ruger pattern continues.

Since the OP on 10 January, I have added three more Rugers. A friend who also works at a gun shop told me he had a NIB 10-22 Takedown model. I had already bought the Lasermax 10-22, but his price on the TD Model was so good, I couldn't pass on it. It is still unfired, NIB. I just put it back for future reference. We have been having a ball with the laser rifle.

Then, Ruger announced their LW Commander version of their 1911. I reported on it in a thread a couple of weeks back. Just had to have one.

Then, a Mini 30 Ranch Rifle that has been languishing on the shelf at my place of employment finally succeeded in forcing me to buy it. I have been fondling it for 6-8 months. I had two Benjamins that somehow failed to get deposited with the rest of the proceeds from a cash sale of a Norinco 1911 and a used Tahoe with 200,000+ miles. (Don't you just love it when people pay in cash?.) Needing to go ahead and give in to the seduction, I quickly handed the two bills to the manager and put the carbine on layaway.

If I'm counting correctly and my memory is right, the last eight
new firearms Ihave bought have been Rugers. I think I have more Rugers in my modest collection now than any other brand.

I bought my first brand new Ruger in 1973, an OM Blackhawk in .45 Colt. It is still in my safe.

The last new revolver I purchased is my NAA 22/22 mag back up gun in 1995. The last new self loading pistol is my S&W 1911 back in January 2009. Everything else has been used. I was really surprised to go through my records and discover this.

Oh, I really enjoy Rugers also.

At one point in 2013 , my local FFL acused me of being a Ruger Guy , and I had to protest I was basically an S&W guy , and it just coincidence I was getting a string of Rugers.as to new-new pistols, 2013 saw a John Ross M500, and a 3gen G29sf . Before that goes back almost 15yr for anything not pre- broken in. I can say I will never again purchase a new-new handgun for reasons of political principle.

I must be jinxed , but I have had uniformly bad luck with 10/22's . One used, one brand new , can't get either one to be reliable. ( Yeah , I did all the usual cleaning , libing , and different mags per the 10/22 fanboys , but I've given up on them.)

I will say that Marlin M60, Marlin M735 , and Rem 597 all work fine. And a Rem M597 is a better rifle as-is in all respects than an out of the box 10/22 . The 10/22 has more aftermarket toys , but by the time you take a brand new gun , and replace the bbl , stock, trigger , and have the bolt 'smithed , you are spending the $ of a upper mid grade AR-15 on a plinker .22 .

I like all my .22 rifles, the 10/22 is the only semi auto. My two Marling 39's are by far my favorites. Ed

One of my prized guns is a 10/22, bought new, on sale in the mid 70's for about $80. I bought a $19 'variable power' scope (which it still wears) and easily shot a quarter million rounds through it over the decades. Those weren't range rounds, but from fields, woods and tractors. It still has the same gritty trigger and shoots like new.

Times have changed and I can no longer walk across a country road to shoot a few bulk packs at will. However, the 10/22 memories are always close.

I hope everyone enjoys their 10/22 as much as I did mine.

I had one but my son ended up with it. I have been planning on getting another but came across a CZ 452 my friend had for sale. Got it instead.

10-22 has got to be on my bucket list somewhere... really not sure why I don't have one .

Ruger is making so many variations of rimfire guns there's bound to be a perfect fit for everyone. I don't have as many Rugers as a lot of you guys, but of the three I own this is my favorite.

If you're a soda can threatening me at 50yds, you're going down!
