Colt Aircrewman?
Came across this Colt Cobra 38spl and the owner states that it is an Aircrewman from 1967. There is an "LW" stamped below the serial number. No other markings with US Air Force, or Aircrewman.
Other than being a Cobra, is there any collector value in this model that was sold commercially as an Aircrewman? Everything appears original. Owner wants 550. Any additional info/insight would be appreciated.

The old saying "buy the gun not the story". The pictured Colt Cobra is not an Aircrewman, and it never was an Aircrewman. The "LW" means "Light Weight". The Cobra is basically the same as a S&W Model 12. If it was a true Colt Aircrewman, it would have an aluminum cylinder, be marked on the back strap "Property of the U.S. Airforce" and have a property number of the bottom of the butt along with other unique features to this model like stocks with special medallions and the barrel roll marking.
All said, $550 for that pictured Cobra is not a horrible deal. They are actually quite good shooters. I have one with a hammer shroud.

The price sounds close to me and if it is sound mechanically you will never lose money on a Colt carry gun. Let us know how it shoots!

The Cobra was the lightened version of the Detective Special. Aluminum frame, steel bbl. and cylinder. Colt called it the Cobra. 6 shot, Police Positive model frame, hence, the 6 shots rather than the 5 of the Smith and Wesson Cheif's Special.
Very good revolvers. Light weight for longer carry although the DS isn't that bad. I would say that as long as the timing is good and the gun doesn't appear to be thrashed, get it. You won't be disappointed. The price is not too bad, all things considered.

Not bad shooters, IMO, I have one just a few months older.
Nice revolvers, I paid the same for mine too.
