Default A review : Mauser 80SA

This HiPower was ,according to everything I can find out online, assembled & finished by Mauser in the early 1990's from FEG parts. Apparently, Mauser only produced the pistol for a few years.

I bought mine recently for three reasons. 1) I've owned & sold/traded 8 or 9 HP's over the years. Everything from an Argentine licensed gun, an Inglis, a .40 caliber, and numerous FNs. 2) It was less expensive than its' FN cousins. Frankly, I was expecting something less in fit & finish as a trade-off. 3) I missed having one.

Well, I was wrong! It is the equal or (are you sitting down??!!) superior in every way to the Belgian guns. This was ,according to the CAI import markings on the frame, brought back from Germany. The trigger is actually better than most GP35s and it even feeds 127 gr. Winchester hollowpoints flawlessly.

Yes, I am impressed. Here she is in all of her faded glory:

Best,
Charles

Did Mauser actually assemble those guns, or did FEG just stamp Mauser on the slide? The reason I ask is that FEG did contract runs of other guns, especially their improved PP copy.

Mauser did assemble and fit/finish the guns from FEG parts. If you look very closely, there is a German proof mark also. From what I read, everything was sent from Hungary to Mauser "in the white" and they were put together there.

Nothing wrong with the PJK 9 HP's, C&S still builds custom guns around the Hungarian guns. With some nice fitting and finish, it doesn't surprise me that they would compare to a Belgian.
