All-black doesn't bother me, but that does make for a right sharp visual accent. Neat idea, neatly executed.

I was never much of a fan of white-line spacers on rifle buttpads or pistol grip caps and forends, but that looks pretty sharp! Nice work.

The white is a nice touch, but the all black is pretty awesome as well. Nice handiwork, and thanks for the pictures.

You made a neat job out of it, Elroy!
I would have thought it wouldn't look that good.

The grips panels are effectively shimmed out an 1/16" total which actually fills my palm a better. One simply gets used to it.
Best thing is, the revision is fully reversible with zero permanent modifications. The cost was zero as the material came from a Bleach Bottle. I don't think it would look as good if the shims were any thicker.

Interesting modification. I have a fixed-sight Single Six in .22 LR that is black on black. I'd like to have a thicker grip, and your solution might just work for me. Thanks for posting.

Very nice and even better it was just bleach bottle stock. Same effect as pinstripes on a car.

I like the black-on-black look, but that addition is ingenious and looks really sharp. Nice job.

That's a really neat idea. Looks great, plus all it cost you was some time.
You know, back in the day when the Ruger single-actions first hit the market, they came with black grips. And if I remember right, they also offered factory stags. And of course, the Single-Six went on to become the most popular single-action .22 on the planet. The old models (the three-screw models) were and are virtually indestructible.

I didn't know they ever had an internal trigger safety........congrats on acquiring a fine old pistol sir. I'm glad my old Ruger .22 mag only Single Six didn't have one.....I picked up a spare .22LR cylinder in the red pouch that has great timing for if I remember right $10.00 or $15.00 back in 1995 or 1996. One of Union Pacific's safety officers on a Super Fund site sold me the pistol, used in excellent shape for $85.00 that year. It sure is a hit with one of my grandsons.

I went for a set of Esmerelda CocoBolo grips on mine. My gun is from the mid 90's and does NOT have the trigger lock. It also came with wood grips.
Yours looks great too!

I like the plain black, but those white line spacers look good too. Well done. I'd have never thought to do that.
I remember that lock on the Rugers. They intentionally didn't drill a hole in the stocks for just that reason. If you didn't want to use the lock, no problem. If you did, the inside of the grip panel was marked "drill here" where you needed to make the hole to do so. I wonder if anyone ever opened that hole up?
I think they discontinued the lock after a short time, but I don't really keep up with Rugers so I'm not sure about that.

That's a pretty clever way to add a splash of color to an otherwise monotone firearm.
Personally, I would have gone with red spacers, but that's just me.

IMHO You're point is moot. Sure enough...I made this original post many years ago but the issue of modified stocks just recently came up in another thread. I simply referenced this old post as an example of a fully reversible grip modification to an off brand that adds a little bit of passé. It appears a few of our members like the mod. I don't see it as killing puppies.
My sincere apologies if you or your puppy are offended. You should learn to enjoy diverse and sometime "old views". it's one of the underlying strengths of our nation. Open opinion, of which I respect yours. I'm not worried about the puppy.

Wonderful post and thread. Not long ago I blundered into a Old Model Ruger Single Action .357 Mag. The grips are very pretty but I'd like to have some that are a smidgen bigger. With any good luck, I can find some used grips and a bit of walnut veneer that I can fiddle with to make up a similar result as you obtained with your Single Six. Sincerely. bruce.

That was a very cool idea! Now, do another thread and show us how to magically convert that Phoenix medallion into a S&W medallion.
Just kidding, I like my Rugers, too.

Nice job! I did the same to my Single Six stainless model. The wood grips were too narrow to be comfortable for my hands, so I got some fiber spacer material and added it, similar to what you did, and it widened the grips just enough to be more comfortable.
