Thumbs up Chris Reeve Umnumzaan

Been carrying a CRK large 21 Sebenza for close to 6 years and as far as a production knife I considered it about the best available. That being said, the last year or so I've been eyeing the CRK Umnumzaan even going so far as preordering one on two occasions only to cancel the preorder after several weeks. Guess I kind of got cold feet and tired of waiting.

Last week I kind of got the bug again and found one of my main enablers had them in stock so ordered one. I've had it since Monday and can say I'm really glad I decided to do the deed. I realize knives at this price point aren't everyones cup of tea but I think we all have that craving for those things a little better, a little nicer, a little more refined than our standard, everyday fare.

Anyway here's a few pics of my latest CRK. It's been in my pocket since I got it Monday so it may be awhile before it gets any more camera time.

Yes they are. I guess that fact, in addition to the looks and design is what lead me to CRK in the first place. When I first started getting into collecting and using different blades I kept seeing posts on the knife forums about the "Sebenza". Had no idea what a "Sebenza" was but there sure were a lot of folks buying and talking about it.

After getting mine I suddenly knew what it was they were talking about and why. I'm not privy how others make their blades but CRK explains how they do it and the extreme tolerances they exact in the production. There is a two part, shop tour video on youtube were Mr. Reeve talks about the tolerances they adhere to being on par with or surpassing those used in the aerospace industry. IRRC something along the lines of 3/10,000ths of an inch or a third of one 10,000ths. What ever it was it was pretty small and way less than the width of a human hair.

Does a knife really need to be built to that degree of perfection? IMHO no, it doesn't but just knowing they want to build a product that well tells me they are serious even passionate about their products.
