How Bad Did I Do?
On the south side of San Antonio is a gun range, "A Place to Shoot". Went up to buy some bullets to reload a 22-250 for my daughter and decided to check out the hand guns they had for sale. Good choices and fair prices.
New owners who seem to be pretty nice and knowledgable.
Lady offered me a me brand of 9mm semi and it had the little saftey gizmo on the trigger ala Glock. Dry fire ok, so I tried it and I couldn't get it to dry fire. I guess it was my finger as they had no problem. Price was great at $279.50, but had to pass.
Next the lady showed me a Sig 226 in 9mm. Now I own several 226's, 357 Sig, 40 S&W and I love them. Great guns and reliable.
This one was, however, a new one. Blued, beautiful wood grips. It was the Texas edition, with the outline of Texas on the slide.
Now ya gotta know, there is only one place better then Texas and that's Heaven.
On sale, $815.
I went home and looked it up. Several places have it listed for over a grand.
Went back and put it on lay away
Whatcha think?

At my visit a few months back to the Sig Academy Store in NH.
I actually had one in my hands, expensive but a great looking firearm. Nice purchase you made.

I had a 226 once. Ten mags. Every one worked every time, fired about 1500 rounds through that pistol, it never did anything but work right. It was a little large for my hand, which is why I no longer have it, but if it fits your hand, it will be one of the best guns you ever had.

I've considered buying a Sig recently, but I just don't know enough about them. I know a lot of people here on the Forum have them & speak highly of them.
A Texas edition you say? Hmmm...That would be VERY tempting. Any chance you could post pics when you bring it home?

With due respect to all of our Texan members, if it has anything on it other than fine scroll, I would pass, but as you said, the 226 is a great gun and I am not averse to 226s made in the US. The ones I have seen and fired have at least been the equal of my older W. German-made guns, IMO. And you bought metal instead of plastic!
The price sounds good to me!

SIG makes fine pistols. I have a pair of 228s that survived two Thunder Ranch classes, and still function as they did when new. ~$800 isn't cheap, but it buys quality.

Regarding Sigs and retail price... I have a friend who works at the factory in New Hampshire. He keeps telling me to come out for a visit and that he can get me a sig at half price as an employee. Is this true? I find that hard to believe.

It would not surprise me, as there are good markups on firearms. Look at the RRPs and then what an honest LGS will sell them for, and still be happy with the profit.
