Smile 32 Long Colt Stainless

I have not been able to find this pistol in Blue Book values so will appreciate any help. It is a 32 stainless long colt flat butt, ivory grips and has serial number 273481. It is in excellent condition and I would rate it at 95 PCT.

Welcome! Have a look at this post and let us know some more details:

To IDENTIFY your Gun >

S & W stamped many of their revolvers with ".32 (S & W) Long CTG", but generally avoided placing the name of their major competitor on their guns

If it is marked .32 Long CTG it is a .32 S&W Long, not Colt.

It will be Nickel plated, not stainless, and not Chrome.

This assumes the gun is a S&W, which you didn't say! You have to at least give the make of gun you are asking about, it could be a Rossi for all we know.

Welcome to the forum. Is the serial number on the forestrap of the grip frame or the bottom? If on the forestrap, it's almost certain that you have a .32 Regulation Police from about the time of WWI.

Does the gun have fixed or adjustable sights? How long is the barrel, measuring from the muzzle to the face of the cylinder?

If there is a letter prefix to the serial number, the gun is something else and was manufactured later. Pictures would definitely help.

The 32 Colt guns are an entire different bird. Can't make one from a 32 S&W or a 32 Colt New Police. Those guns already have too big a hole in them. The 32 Long S&Ws are .313, give or take. The 32 Colt family is .299. Tiny little pills. On the up side, they're fun to shoot, with no recoil and insignificant noise. I don't even know if they had stainless steel back then. Doesn't matter. Colt is the only one to make a gun in 32 Colt as far as I know. Finding ammo is a thrill, but easier than finding finding .299 bullets to load.

Sorry for all the errors. It is Nickel plated Smith and 32 Long otg is on the barrel. Serial number 275481 is located on tang of the barrel, on the cylinder and on the flat butt. Barrel is 3 inches long from the start of the chamber to the end of the barrel. It has fixed sights.

Sounds like a 32 Hand Ejector. Can't find my serial number list, but would guess it's from around 1920 plus or minus.

Froggie has the ID and approximate age correct . "OTG" is actually CTG, short for cartridge, and this had a 3.25" barrel among other lengths.

I have several other Smiths but saw this one and took a liking to it. Owner wanted $350.00 for it so I brought it home. I knew that it was pretty old but had no clue for sure of the time frame. I will enjoy shooting it I'm sure. Thanks again for all the help.
